I learned touchtyping at schools with typewriter. So basically I have no any tips at all. But I remember the typewriter keys at the time were very heavy.

It was much heavier than current computer keyboard. It made the computer keys to be very soft and easy to press.

May be you want to give it a try.

Text editing skill is extremely useful and it will always be useful forever.

But in my experience, I have even more useful skill. It is touch typing.

Whether it is for text editing or number crunching, or thinkering with graphs, touch typing is always super helpful.

I've been working with software and writing code for the last eight years. Nevertheless, I came to a sad realization a couple of weeks ago: I can't type properly.

Yep, that's it. I suck at it. I'm always looking at the keyboard because I forget where the keys are. But finally I had enough. I decided to learn how to type properly, with all my fingers, with good ergonomics, and more importantly, without looking.

Про тренировку навыка печати на клавиатуре и выбор клавиатурного тренажёра. Давным давно понравился #VerseQ, такое впечатление, что знаком уже 20+ лет, если не больше.

Сайт https://verseq.ru — сама софтина с разными раскладками. Есть и онлайн-вариант тренажёра.

Не долбит какими-то специфичными обязательными упражнениями. А вынуждает набирать слоги и псевдо-слова подстраивая задания под ошибки и проблемы конкретного пользователя. Это не какая-то новомодная технология, а реально лет 20+ существующий и работающий подход к обучению.

Да в начале 21-го века были и рекомендательные системы и чат-боты, которые прекрасно работали и без машинного обучения с нейронными сетями, а реализовывались на других подходах. Т.е. machine leaning был с разными подходами и на алгоритмах кластеризации и методах опорных векторов и корреляционного анализа и т.д. и т.п.
Хотя это всё и не про VerseQ, где относительно просто, хоть и адаптивный подход, но этого хватило, чтобы изрядно выделять из ряда тренажёров клавиатурных.

Тренировать можно три режима ввода текста — базовый, продвинутый и профессиональный. Позволяет на первых порах не долбиться о знаки препинания и цифры, а отработать ввод букв, литер в одном регистре.

Самый свежий вариант VerseQ софтины работает на linux'ах через #WINE, но с оговоркой. Что всё нормально, когда работает через эмуляцию XOrg (через xwayland). Если же сбрасывать переменную DISPLAY, вынуждая работать напрямую с #Wayland'ом, то сбоит переключение раскладки на правому Shift.

Объявлять переменные окружения и LANG=ru_RU.utf8 и LC_ALL=ru_RU.utf8 надо в том случае, если локаль не русская, а охота тренировать русскоязычный ввод\печать.

В любом случае вещь крайне полезная и очень хорошо успокаивающая, медитативно снимающая стресс.

When I learnt to touch type, on Linux/Unix over 30 years ago, I chose Dvorak.
Great system, and I am fast, BUT the lack of modern Dvorak keyboards is a nuisance. I switch the keys around, and have to improvise the ‘homekey bumps’.
Cannot be bothered switching to QWERTY. I can look-two-finger type QWERTY at around 80wpm, but the touch-typing muscle memory is too ingrained now.
Editing is a pain if I have to work on a QWERTY system. If I wasn’t such a geek back then, things might have been different now… 😂
Still, you have to be true to your self. 👾🎒🖲️⌨️
