Neighbourhood UPS

Middle of the night. Someone’s UPS alarm is sounding in the neighborhood. . Going on for 30+ mins now. Like, why bother if you can’t hear it, or won’t do anything? Did you test this, like, ever?

Wow whatever #UPS uses to do delivery routing must really suck. Have watched the icon on the map basically circling my neighborhood for six hours, including both directions on the adjacent thoroughfare, and my package still hasn't been delivered. Almost like some software calculates a spiral pattern based on the loaded deliveries, rather than a linear mapping.

I happened to click the hashtag and low and behold one of the first posts is someone else complaining about the same thing #UPS why do you work with #ATT to help them commit fraud?

The United Parcel Service, UPS, allegedly cheated thousands of #NewYork workers out of wages, Attorney General Letitia James said.  James announced Monday that she is taking UPS to court to recover the wages. The wage theft primarily affected seasonal holiday workers, James said.

Actually, this is to power critical home infrastructure during power outages. A gasoline generator is good, but a charging station is quiet and cheap to charge (compared to gasoline). Also, they can work together for UNLIMITED POWER*.

*UNLIMITED POWER means while I have gasoline in canisters. It’s around 40 liters. It’s around 60 hours of power from the generator. Plus 10 hours from #Bluetti, so the amount of power is quite finite and would end in three days.

OK so here's the verdict: do not replace the lead acid battery of a #UPS with a #LiFePO4 battery unless either:
- the UPS discharge cutoff is higher than the battery cutoff
- the UPS tries to charge (puts 12V+ on the battery terminals) even if it reads 0V at startup

What happens is that the battery discharges too low, the BMS kicks in and that puts <1V on its terminals.
On AC resume the UPS thinks there's no battery installed and refuses to start (also no AC passthrough in my case)

#UPS is currently charging its new #LiFePO4 battery. So far so good.

Took some time to check brands and specs, opted for a #Voltium battery. Its BMS seems to allow for some higher short peak power to accommodate inrush current.

And it has Bluetooth. First I thought this was a gimmick but then I realised I'm using the battery in a system designed for another type, so the extra monitoring is nice to validate operations. And it is.
I'll know exactly when charging cuts off and how warm it gets.

This week isn't going to be the week when I start praising #UPS. I had two separate delivery that they mixed up in a major way. One of them was that I requested delivery for something abroad to a #deinfach parcel box contracted by UPS, while travelling, and they never sent any pick up code, so I'm left to argue with the parcel box pin pad that it has my present. I have had plenty of time to pick it up, should the email have been sent otherwise.

The other is that an ebay delivery was abruptly refused by them, claiming "the company or receiver name is incorrect", at an address that didn't change for a few years now.

Our address has its major quirks, but this never stopped any courier from delivering, UPS is the only one that keeps redirecting any parcel inconvenient places, but they usually find the mail slot for the notice. No email though recently, at all.

I start to realise that some of the issues is that they appear to be unable/unwilling to send to protonmail's mail forwarding domain. I'm guessing it's because of a misguided check for the domain reputation. Which is silly -- I'm ok for them to not wanting to receive mail from that "untrusted" domain, but it's not their choice to not notify "customers" with that email domain.

I'll be pretty upset if not even the latter parcel will find its way to me because they want to prevent random domains from receiving their emails.

I won't even attempt explaining that to any AI support bot though.

Men hvordan er de når de bare står og "venter"? Larmer de, bruger de selv meget strøm i idle?
Den sikring jeg ønsker er bare en ordentlig nedlukning, så hardware og filsystemer ikke tager skade.

Hi, could anyone recommend me a #UPS (cheap, under 80€ if possible) for my #yunohost home server?
I'd like it to be able to keep my server powered on when there are momentary power outages, and safely turn it off if the power outage is longer.

#UPS tracking is awful. Did to be delivered today according to website before 10:45am (still showing this). When you look at the tracking it’s still in Germany!
