"'Mike Lee just quietly doubled down on his mass public lands sell-off by releasing new text,' Backer said. 'The Senate could consider it as soon as tomorrow. The secrecy is gross—and intentional. Lee knows it's his only path. America, we NEED to stand strong.'"

I will always find it funny/sad that UTA had open loop contactless payments before contactless credit cards were even a thing, but they removed the functionality like a year before banks started pushing them, and now they're spending who knows what to bring back open loop payments to the network. Stellar planning from the penny pinchers on the board.

Hey, #Utahns #utpol #utleg #SaltLake #SaltLakeCity read this article with a lot of quotes by Clark Aposhian about how our #OpenCarry #ConstitutionalCarry #Unlicened #GunLaws mean you can walk around with guns in public, in crowds, at protests and not be consideted to be breaking any laws, maybe even after you shoot someone.

sltrib.com/news/2025/06/19/can

Then, consider, who is Clark Aposhian? How many guns does he own? Has he ever done anything that could be charged as #DomesticViolence that could result in his losing his ability to own guns? Did prosecutors chicken out and plead him down because they were afraid of a massive shootout when they tried to seize those guns? Should we maybe not give guys that behave like him so much say in who gets to behave how with what deadly weapons?

And yet, that raises the question why open carry like this is legal according to Utah Code 53-5a-102.2. Maybe change the law, #Utah #utpol

I haven't seen any mention here of this shooting at the SLC No Kings protest. From what I can tell, it was an over-reaction by an official protest peacekeeper who hit and killed the wrong person, and was wrong anyway about the armed persons intentions? Am I reading this right? (Brain fog sucks.)

I really don't think open carry belongs at protests. Not at this stage. (And let's hope we don't reach the stage where they do belong.) It's one thing to conceal, but open carry just causes all kinds of unnecessary tension. The only goal of that can be intimidation, and even if you're well meaning, you're usually going to intimidate the most vulnerable.

(I say this with the very strong memory of those Trumpers walking through our crowd armed to the teeth. It was very clear who they wanted to scare, and who they wanted to shoot.)

@ricci
The #utleg #utpol set this up when they passed unlicensed carry/concealed carry/stand your ground laws.

I wonder if anyone except the "good guy" shooter even committed a crime. The guy they said was acting suspicious was probably within the law as he never started shooting.
