Successes today:

1. found the chain gauge

2. discovered that the chain needs replacing

3. discovered just in time that I was halfway through attempting to fit the new 12 speed chain to the 11 speed drivetrain

4. replaced the old 11 speed chain

5. ordered a new 11 speed chain

I'm grateful for, and perplexed by, my puncture this afternoon. 20 minutes of a fine spray of sealant that covered my shoes and the bike, but only a 2psid pressure loss.

Bother - barrel adjuster that sheared off and has been re-attached twice sheared off again this morning, meaning 20k of 36/11 70 rpm to finish my ride.

Obviously this means I need a new bike,

but I have put feelers out to the two people who have re-attached it in the past to see if they think it will stand another go.

Yesterday: spent a lot of time researching bike friendly accommodation in Carentan for a 4-man raid a vélo in Sept. Has to have 4 single beds _and_ secure bike storage 🙄. After 2.5 hrs I booked one and two ferries. Now I know how much effort Mrs Roach puts into finding the right holiday homes!

Today: strava-mapped routes from Highcliffe-Portsmouth, Ouistreham-Carentan, Carentan-Cherbourg, Poole-Highcliffe.

Idea is: 🚴🚴🚴🚴Highcliffe to Portsmouth on Friday afternoon, 🚢 to Ouistreham overnight, 🚴🚴🚴🚴 Ouistreham - Cherbourg with 🌛 in Carentan, 🚢 Cherbourg-Poole on Sunday evening and then 🚴 home.

Dusk 'til Dawn jaunt to Stonehenge 7th edition. 21-27C dry light winds, moths over-represented, night birds, one hedgehog, cats, PCSOs stopping the Salisbury revellers from stepping off the pavement, no Forest livestock standing in the road, one startled roe stag, dawn chorus.

Got home at 5, immediately fell asleep on sofa. Re-stocked my liver with glycogen. Now to scrub 8 hours of accumulated energy bars off my teeth

@shifter I use these abmask reusable anti-fog lens cloths to stop my glasses fogging up. Discovered them in 2020. Initially marketed to key workers but then on general sale in pharmacies. Annoyingly now mostly gone again. You can also get disposable ones, but why would you?
