I need to learn from previous mistakes not to blindly run home automation software updates. Thank goodness Home Assistant made a backup before updating that I could revert to! The update killed my Wemo integration, which is the primary reason I’m running it. 🤦🏻‍♂️

While looking for a couple of #LoRa boards I know I have somewhere.... I came across this #ESP8266 #WemoD1 board, it has an #ArduinoUno form factor, so I thought...hey I should try a couple of shields.. Which I did finally get one to work, but had to modify the board. Makes me wonder why #Wemo didn't just connect the SCL & SDA pins internally, they went to the trouble of making a board that could take #Shields so why not make it as compatible as possiable. Easy Fix, but not the best soldiering

that and I have been since yesterday trying to get one of the #wemo switches already on #homekit to show up on the #wemo app. Just make me want to rip everything out, throw away all the #homepod s and never use any smart thing again. #tobefair this seems like a #wemo #homekit problem, but I am still blaming #apple and the complete #enshittification transformation it has suffered.

@stephenrobles Have you and Andrew heard about a new #firmware update for the #Wemo Mini Thread plugs (outlets)? Version 2.1 is apparently available.

I now have 2.1 on about 5 Minis (previously on firmware 2.0.1) that I was getting ready to recycle.

Time will tell if they will stay on #thread without falling back to #Bluetooth before eventually going non-responsive.

I searched briefly for release notes but didn’t see any.

PS: It takes the usual shenanigans to get them updated.

Wemo (Belkin) is backing off from Matter. If we take into consideration that the Wemo app has almost never been updated, in my opinion, Belkin may be looking to exit. This is rather disappointing for me, as I have invested a bit into the wemo ecosystem. The outlet adapters are fairly easy to install, as it's plug it in and go, but the hard wired wall switches, those will be more of a challenge to replace.

My #wemo smart outlet did a firmware update and now it's sending out bonjour advertisements for "OpenWrt SSH". Why the heck would there be an SSH server in an outlet!?

It drops the connection immediately, so presumably it's soft-disabled, but still... I should just replace my remaining wemo outlets with (Thread-only) eve outlets; wemo's been nothing but trouble.

It would appear that #Wemo is down. I can't turn on my Christmas tree. I actually restarted my router, which is something typically I never have to do.
