I’m not going to buy a car because #zipcar has gone. Probably just pay for more deliveries or hire person-with-van when necessary. It’s a shame though, felt like they helped me keep my hand in with driving for the occasional times it’s a useful skill.

no hardship really, I tried to sign up to #zipcar about five years ago and they refused my application because my email address did not start with my name

I decided that if they were going to be that fussy, then I didn't want to use them anyway

back then I had a gap of about nine months ofwithout car ownership, and Iwent out and bought another car

Got an email today to say that #Zipcar are planning to shut down. I'm only an occasional user, but this sucks if, like me, you don't want to own a car in London.

Guess I need to start looking into alternatives.

There are alternatives in the UK! I use Co-wheels regularly in Glasgow (https://www.co-wheels.org.uk), it's in several other UK cities too. Just checked: unfortunately they are not in London (see screenshot below) but maybe they'll take over from Zipcar? It's really convenient and they mostly have either electric or hybrids. Thanks to them I don't have to own a car :)

Surprised and a little disappointed to learn by email that #Zipcar car sharing club is closing down next year.

I use their cars a couple of times a year to do things that I need a car for. It'll be a right hassle to have to book a car through a regular rental agency to do the same things.

Seems like car sharing is a fairly positive development in the rentier culture, and this is a backward step. Business is business though, I guess

Huh, I see that Zip Car UK is closing down, which would be a right pain if I hadn't bought a car last year.

That's a lot of parking spaces about to be freed up I suppose. And a lot of easy-rental cars lying around the city disappearing.

Genuinely sad to receive the news that #Zipcar is looking to wind up their UK operations by 31/12/2025.

Not just a miserable Christmas for their staff but a real buggeration to lose access to their vans - even if we didn't use it all that often often, we've had a business account subscription for ages for projects and emergencies. :(

Just had to move 250kgs of paintings for my partner’s dad to a gallery, in the rain, so this was a job for a car not a bike!

Rented a little #Hyundai Ioniq through #Zipcar and was impressed - nippy & manoeuvrable on congested #London roads, but with a decent carrying capacity.

Fully electric car also, and total cost was £16 including a damage waiver fee - I had a little credit in my Zipcar account.

As don't have a car decided to us #Uber rather than #ZipCar (a car club for those of us who don't own a car) as means of transporting son (and his possessions) home from uni. Neither as expensive nor as stressful as bringing to college.(I'm not fond of driving)

Speed limit on the #SouthCircular (A London main road) was reduced to 20mph in March last year (I tooted about it back then : https://rouge.eu.org/@jfparis/112095838578504118). I updated #OpenStreetMap straight immediately at the time.

Today I used a #ZipCar (car pooling). It was a car with 25 plates (means sold after 1st March 2025) and the onboard navigation was still showing me 30mph.

Underwhelmed to say the least

1) Sunny day, even if it was on the chilly side.
2) In spite of my #Zipcar reservation getting bunged up (previous driver just no-showed), got to kiddo’s #clarinet lesson across town with a quick cab.
3) Long afternoon coffee & snack luxuriating with spouse & kiddo at the neighborhood #vegan place. (We are not vegan, tbh, but #RadRadish is pretty yummy and convenient.)

I'm now a #Zipcar member thanks to #UNC discount, #FTW!
