Since we haven't had a real redesign on iOS in a very long time: a lot of what you're going to see from third parties come September is apps that have been /ported/ to Liquid Glass, not apps designed from the ground up for it. Everybody is still learning this stuff, and it's a moving target on Apple's side too. That'll mean a lot of shoehorning — glass in places it probably doesn't need to be, layouts put in glass containers whether they need them or not, etc. A lot of iteration is still to come

Maybe it’s just because I’m an elder millennial, but I much prefer the TV censor bleep over the sewer slide.

FAST COMPANY

While retirement typically occurs, after
completing a career and saving and
investing for it, a new trend is emerging
among Gen Z career profe ionals
called "micro-retirement." Micro-
retirements involve taking a one to two-
week break from work every 12 to 18
months.
Gen Z is using micro-retirement to
avoid burnout, find greater fulfillment
in their work, and enhance their overall
well-being. However, it's not just Gen-Z:

One thing the AI craze is showing me is that there really is a generation of ‘programmers’ who actually feel that designing, coding and optimizing is somehow the tedious part of the job and not the fun part we all know it is…

@b4ux1t3 If you’re comparing a bunch of distances for voronoi to see which is smallest, you can compare the squares of the distances instead to avoid the square root operation.

I don't use AI coding assistants, but I wish my LSP could auto-fix

for k, v in my_dict:

to

for k, v in my_dict.items():

for me, because I do that 5 times a project.

P.S. Python dict iteration should default to .items() and make you use .keys() if you wanted the keys. 🙄

They are starting to get it ...

Mark Butcher

1) Sandra used AI to write a report
2) Bill used AI to summarise the report
3) Bill used AI to write questions about the report
4) Sandra used AI to respond to the questions
5) Bill used AI to create a presentation about the report
6) Jane used AI to take notes from the presentation
7) Jane’s team used AI to summarise the notes she shared

No one wrote the report, no one ever read the report, no one understood the questions or the answers.

No business value was achieved

But but but AI adds business value

as a child I thought it was wildly unrealistic that Sims would immediately give up on all their goals and dreams if a single dirty plate was left on the ground but now that I’m an adult I understand that that was the most realistic part of the game

Hey Germans, please come up with a word that means "the fear of typing `return` vs `shift-return` because you don't know which inserts newline and which sends the message"

Last chance to book for "Embracing the Future with Project Aria Glasses"

What would you do with access to data from smart glasses?

Join us on Wednesday at APUG when Dr Carlos Moreno-Garcia talks about Project Aria which he participates in with Meta.

See the glasses in action and think about ways to use the data collected to produce Python Applications for real-life applications.

Watching a speaker apologise for any quirks in the code they're using in their slides.

"It was generated by AI."

Resisted the temptation to raise my hand and say, "You know you're allowed to edit generated code before committing it?"

Don't use LLMs to increase the unmanaged technical debt in the world. Software is supposed to be soft; It's not written in stone.
