Line graph time series of 2025's daily Arctic sea ice extent compared to decadal averages from the 1980s to the 2010s. The decadal averages are shown with different colored lines with purple for the 1980s, blue for the 1990s, green for the 2000s, and white for the 2010s. Thin white lines are also shown for each year from 2000 to 2024. 2025 is shown with a thick gold line. There is a long-term decreasing trend in ice extent for every day of the year shown on this graph between January and April by looking at the decadal average line positions.

The magnitude of the current size of the #Arctic sea ice extent anomaly is unheard of in the satellite-era record for the deep winter season months.

Data from nsidc.org/data/seaice_index

Line graph time series of 2025's daily Arctic sea ice extent anomalies in red shading compared to each year from 1979 to 2024 using shades of purple to white for each line. Anomalies are computed relative to a 1981-2010 baseline. 2025 is currently a record low. There is substantial interannual and daily variability. There is also a long-term decreasing trend.

Aren't timezones fascinating?

In Australia, it's already 2025

In Europe, it's still 2024

In the USA, we're entering 1937

I'm seeing a lot more sunrises now that we have a puppy. Amazing cloud inversion over Linthwaite and Slaithwaite this morning. Had the SLR around (again due to the puppy) so got some amazing shots.

Yesterday, when the weather was somewhat better than it is today, Hickory ran down through the fields to join me & Rosey Bean on a short snowy walk.

Rosey Bean was dubious about the structural integrity of the fence but Hick managed to catwalk across it.

A black cat sitting on a wooden fence post. Behind him is a snow covered field and a deep blue sky. He's looking above the photographer, out into the distance like a serious model deep in thought, when in reality, he's a big soft silly Billy.A vertical version of the previous shot reveals a springer spaniel puppy (brown head and ears, white body) sitting near the cat on the fence. Her head is twisted around and back so she can watch him. He's leaning his weight on a broken part of the fence. It does not look like it'll hold his weight...The cat from the previous pictures is now walking across the horizontal fence railing. His body is low as his 3 brain cells work hard to keep his balance. The cat reached his destination- the next fence post along. He's now sitting low and looking at the camera. He's mid yawn so his mouth is wide open and it looks like he's yelling with delight.

One of our Japanese maple's is leaching its color in the snow.

It makes for a surprisingly potent dye with the brightest spots looking like antifreeze.

edit; leaching, not leeching ;-)
