I'm very excited to share that our bacteriophage recovery tool, Phables has been accepted for publication in the OUP Bioinformatics journal.

The preprint of Phables is up on biorxiv! Phables can resolve high-quality bacteriophage genomes from fragmented metagenome assemblies using assembly graphs.

New paper is out! Writing research software is hard, so why make it harder than it needs to be? https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pcbi.1010705 Thank you to all my amazing collaborators @saltyscientist@twitter.com @bioinforad @vijinim @npbhavya @ctb @watsonhaigh@twitter.com @linsalrob #bioinformatics

It's an incredible honour to receive the @abacbs@twitter.com and @ARDC_AU@twitter.com inaugural @torstenseemann@twitter.com Outstanding Bioinformatics Software Developer Award for 2022. I'm especially #chuffed as like many binfies, Torsten was my inspiration for publishing my first bioinf pipeline (in Perl!). 1/3
I'm excited to see what the future holds for the ABACBS and ARDC awards, and I can only hope to one day inspire as many new binfies as Torsten has.
It was great to hear from @kgrussell@twitter.com on why the ARDC is supporting the ABACBS awards. Finding the time and money to develop and maintain bioinf software is hard, but good tools can be just as transformative as any other scientific breakthrough. 2/3
I just graphed Mastodon's MONTHLY ACTIVE USERS each day for the month of November.
At the end of October there were 496K active users, and at the end of November there are 2.6M -- that's 424% growth.
This is just ACTIVE users; there are millions more non-active accounts.
(For comparison, Twitter allegedly has 396.5M monthly active users, or about 152x the active userbase of Mastodon.)

Wait a second, these are not real error bars … the author literally just put the letter “T” above the bar graphs 😭

@drjulie_b OMG lol.
@multimeric not to mention the "why does this exist?" Lol
The eternal battle between #nextflow and #snakemake continues at #ABACBS22 as the invited speaker from nextflow's parent company is challenged by the audience to compare the two workflow managers. Immediately following is a contrasting presentation which demonstrates the use of snakemake for viral assembly!
Yay I'm learning about Nextflow at #abacbs22

How do we design the short-format training to make it most useful for learners?

This is my first toot, mundanely to clarify for the #ABACBS2022 conference that the preferred hashtag is now #ABACBS22
