Last night in Fukuoka

The sun has just set on the beach and the sky is orange and pink.

On the horizon line, a small island hides the setting sun while the sea reflects the warm pastel colors of the sky.

The beach is getting darker but the buildings in the background are illuminated and the Fukuoka Tower spire is lit blue. Some pink lingers in the sky.

A kid has walked into the sea up to his calves and is looking at the beautiful pastel colors of the sky.

The sign of an old school Japanese knife shop, with an extremely long list of articles written by hand in black and red. On it, a first red sticker has been placed reading in yellow Japanese script“special sales”, and on top of this one, another red sticker reading in white, in English, “sale to you who know true values”.

We honor the life of Sebastião Salgado, who passed away yesterday. Our Brazilian comrades introduced us to his photography twenty-five years ago. You may have seen it in some of our efforts since then.

Again and again, in illuminating social struggles around the world, Salgado took the side of the oppressed.
