A Lesser Goldfinch at the tip of an Oak Tree Branch. The Yellow breasted seed eating bird has black wings with white and yellow stripes and a gray triangular bill. The background is blurred white, yellow and blue.

Sprinklers and a small puddle on a rock in the yard created a bathing opportunity for an Acorn Woodpecker this morning.

An overall blue dragonfly is perched on a thin green reed. The large eyes are turquoise and each of the four wings has a black window on the leading edge/tip. I believe it is a Blue Dasher.

Warm Friday morning in the yard. The Bee Balm is blooming and the young Anna's Hummingbirds are taking advantage.

A young Anna's Hummingbird is taking nectar from a Bee Balm flower cluster. The bird is overall gray and metallic green with some downy feathers about to shed. The flowers in the head are light lavender and are cupped by green petals.

Warm Sunday morning, over 100°F today again. The Apricots in the yard are ripening fast in the heat.

A Nuttall's Woodpecker is looking down at the camera from a walnut tree branch. This male has a red crest, striped black and white face, and checkered black and white back and breast.

A dragonfly, possibly a Red Skimmer, is perched on the tip of a plant stalk. The dragonfly is bright red with black bars on the leading tips of the wings.

A California Scrub-Jay is perched on a redbud branch looing at the camera. The Corvid is blue gray above, white below, has a black mask and a white eyebrow.

A butterfly, possibly an Acmon Blue, is on a small yellow flower in some green grass. The insect's wings are grey, with black spots over most of the wings and orange spots at the ends of the lower wings.

A family of White-breasted Nuthatches has been storming the feeders this last week. Here one is checking out the sapsucker holes in the walnut tree this Saturday morning.
