@wonderofscience @Landru79 Amazing footage! In fact, so awe inspiring, I wont make a Bruce Willis joke.

Finally! After receiving my replacement ZWO 2600MM Pro (oil leak and fan causing vibration issues), we experienced an uncharacteristic three weeks of cloudy weather. This was a test shot of the Cygnus Wall in the North America Nebula. The image is 30 x 5min exposures in hydrogen alpha. #astronomy #astrophotography #astrophoto #space #nebula #deepspaceobject

Newly published research suggests that skyglow is increasing around the world on average at a rate much higher than previously thought. Read more about how citizen-scientists contributed to this new understanding and what the results mean for efforts to reduce light pollution and bring back starry nights.

Please stop using “mom” as an example of an unsophisticated user of technology. This reinforces harmful stereotypes.

Instead, I suggest using “congressperson”.

Matt Gaetz went on MSNBC last night to claim he never begged Trump for a pardon. Riiiiight. 🙄

Watch Gaetz squirm as Ari Melber brings the instant video receipts rebutting his lie. The schadenfreude is real: comicsands.com/ari-melber-matt

Added some OIII. Between the light pollution, wind, and tracking issues, the image is messy. But, with the weather being what it has been, gotta work with what I get. The Rosette Nebula is about 5000 light years from earth and 130 light years across. Here you can see about 1/4 of the nebula. #photography #astrophotography #space #deepspace #DSO #rosettenebula #nebula

Here is a close-up of the Rosette Nebula (NGC 2237). The Rosette Nebula is about 5000 light years from earth and 130 light years across. Here you can see about 1/4 of the nebula. This image is composed of 44 x 5min (3.7 hours total integration) exposures using a hydrogen alpha filter. If current weather patterns persist, I'll complete the image sometime in 2055 ;) #photography #astrophotography #space #deepspace #DSO #rosettenebula #nebula

Fission is in the news, but few recognize that a woman physicist was behind the discovery.

Lise Meitner’s brilliance led to the discovery of nuclear fission. But her long time collaborator Otto Hahn, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry w/o her in 1944, even though she had given the first theoretical explanation.

Albert Einstein called Meitner “our Marie Curie." She also adamantly refused to work on the atomic bomb during WWII. aps.org/publications/apsnews/2

Over 80% of the world’s population & 99% of Americans & Europeans live under "sky glow," where light pollution affects wildlife, human health & our ability to observe celestial objects.

As we lose the chance to look up & peer back in time at once vivid stars, we risk forgetting our place as a single species in the magnificent symphony of life. education.nationalgeographic.o

NASA image of the Perseid meteors in the night sky. The Perseids are debris remnants of Comet Swift-Tuttle, which takes 133 years to orbit the Sun once. The meteors often leave long “wakes” of light and color behind them as they streak through Earth's atmosphere. They’re also known for their fireballs, which are larger explosions of light and color that can persist longer than an average meteor streak.

Yes, the moon was full. Yes, this target is relatively close to the moon. Yes, the seeing wasn't great. BUT, this was the first night without clouds in weeks. So, here is 37 x 5min exposures in Ha of the Spider Nebula. Given the forecast, it'll be next year before I complete this photo. #astrophotography #space #photography #astronomy #nebula #spidernebula

Last year, California Assemblymember Alex Lee's #LightPollution bill passed the state Assembly, but regrettably the bill was vetoed by Gov. Gavin #Newsom. Lee has reintroduced the bill as #AB38 in the coming legislative session.

The bill is good, common-sense policy that applies only to state-owned outdoor #lighting. If enacted, it will save money and improve nighttime conditions statewide. I'm proud to support it.

Follow the bill's progress on: leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/fac
