Many researchers use CO2 as an anaesthetic for bumble bees, but now Anna Cressman and Etya Amsalem have discovered that the gas has side effects, affecting the insects' recovery and also impacts worker and queen bee fertility differently

I am 100% not shitting you when I say scientists named mastodons after their teeth which they thought looked like nipples. βMastosβ as in breast. βodontβ as in tooth.
Weβre on a website that, in Greek, literally means βBooby Tooth.β
This threadβ¦ Once the envy of the world, now defunded, dismantled, suffering the loss of so many incredible workers through Brexit. Now itβs claimed itβs a broken system that can only be fixed through privatisation. We have to make lying wrong again.

If #Insects are indeed #sentient, what would that mean for #animalwelfare law, and how we treat them in #farming, at home, in #research? Should we extend extend #AnimalWelfare Act 2006, so insect farms minimising suffering and use #humaneslaughter?.
What about Animals in Scientific Procedures Act? Like protecting octopuses should we regulate insect research, apply #3Rs and #ethics?
Come work with me.
We have an opening on the Global Center for Species Survival team for a #MarineConservation Coordinator

Hi. I'm a #sociologist who studies (mainly) UK #NHS and #DigitalHealth. Wrote a little book on #QualitativeResearch methods in healthcare with my pal Nick Mays, and so I'm often found teaching research (including Oxford Qualitative Courses). I'm part of the #TwitterMigration and am looking forward to new friendships, serendipitous discovery and creative conversations.
