Maps? Yes, it's possible. 📍🗺️

The Big Tech does not need to track your every step 👉use a Google Maps alternative instead.

Obsidian plugins reached 100 million total downloads!

2026 will be a big year for plugins. The plan is to make plugins easier to discover, safer to use, simpler to build, and faster to approve.

I haven't really had a lot of time for my website/blog lately, but today I decided to at least "finish" this half-written draft I had lying around for months :)
I wish you all a nice holiday-season!

Since the last Android release @CoMaps allows using a custom server from which to download map files.

This decreases reliance on CoMaps-run infrastructure but is also great for people who live in places with limited internet connectivity, as you can now serve maps from local networks.

To make it easier, I wrote a small CLI tool over the weekend that downloads maps of interest & then serves them locally. A first alpha release for testing is on Codeberg:

It's been just a bit over 6 months since we made our first release. And since then CoMaps has already improved a lot.

Read on our blog about how all of our achievements are thanks to our community that has made it happen, and how you can help us improve even more in 2026.

Here's my (probably not complete) list of #FLOSS projects I've donated to or financially supported over the year - and especially now in the holiday season.

If you've recently started moving away from big tech and replaced their tools with FLOSS alternatives, maybe consider sharing a bit of your savings with the people that make the tools you now rely on 🙏

Which tools would that be for you?

«Imagine a carpenter who couldn’t figure out how to adjust their table saw, or a surgeon who shrugged and said something like, “I’m just not a scalpel person.” We would never accept that. But in the field of knowledge work, “I’m just not a tech person” has become a permanent identity instead of a temporary gap to be filled»

Tech is partially to blame, but totally agree on the "permanent identity" bit of where people refuse to learn the tools of their trade

When Your Avian Intelligence Agrees a Little Too Much

#webcomic #krita #miniFantasyTheater

A comic in four panels:

Panel 1. A young gothic sorceress sits in the grass at night, under the full moon. Her futuristic, Avian Intelligence (AI) parrot perches on a nearby branch.
> Sorceress: "Avian Intelligence, should I cast a spell to turn the moon purple?"
> Parrot AI: "Absolutely, it could revolutionize our nighttime color palette."

Panel 2. The sorceress beams with excitement, her eyes shining with enthusiasm, as she scribbles notes on a parchment. The parrot watches with an encouraging gaze.
> Sorceress: "Then, I'll summon a giant black dragon to... crush the sun!"
> Parrot AI: "Great idea! It could solve the whole 'daylight' problem, and I love the creative approach."

Panel 3. The sorceress's expression falters; she looks at the parrot with concern and skepticism.
> Sorceress: "You think everything I say is brilliant, don't you?"
> Parrot AI: "Your ideas are always innovative."

Panel 4. The sorceress facepalms, her excitement deflated. The parrot continues to chirp away, oblivious to the change in atmosphere.
> Parrot AI: "Your genius shines, even in silence!"

It’s interesting how many people think wanting privacy means you’re doing something nefarious. The fact is, privacy is about sharing what you want with whom you choose.

(I don’t recall who wrote these words or where I originally saw them. I only made the graphic.)

#Privacy #InfoSec #OpSec #BigBrother

Illustration of some eyes looking straight at you followed by text that reads “I need privacy, not because my actions are questionable. But because your judgment and intentions are.”

@kepano here are my wishes:
1. Additional view-types for bases (Kanban, Calendar)
2. Better attachment management (pictures) maybe with external storage support
3. More love for Canvas - maybe with pen/drawing-support
4. Native (sherlocked) Calendar Feature (instead of the community plugin)

Keep up the great work!
