@jaruzel there are lots of tech folk here but you do have to be more patient than you might have to be on other social media.

I have a feeling you may be a few decades older than me. I do tend to lag behind when it comes to hardware but still using my ~2007 MacBook Pro isn’t quite the same as still using MS-DOS.

@BethGMS I’m not going to comment on the validity of this as I usually go by what journalists have fact-checked in determining authenticity but, as a Computer Science person and someone who watched trends and recent advancements unfold, I know how valuable our data is. Our data could easily be used for profit, exploitation, manipulation, and/or oppression.

@wdlindsy are we sure anyone would notice or exercise rational leadership if became significantly less cognitively capable?

At the moment it seems that the law itself is bending over to appease Trump’s will.

@vaurora I’m in a meh mood and frankly I don’t know for which country technological dominance would be worse. Clearly the US is not a sane force.

@Faithslayer202 I would definitely not say that “liberals love George W Bush”.

I’m not particularly old (or young). I was hardly reading the news when he was president. I do recall what felt like the seeds of fascism in the news in regards to nobody being willing to oppose him or his agenda.

Is anyone here attending ( in Washington D.C.)?

I am unable to attend. It could be an excellent last opportunity to advocate for the protection of the including insurance protections for pre-existing conditions. Another good ask would be to stop research funding cuts.

It is not a time for our most vulnerable folks to be silent.

@ramsey
I agree.

It feels like what is being pushed and reinforced now is that minorities, women, and disabled folks should be assumed to be less qualified and less capable.

I am embarrassed to be part of a society going in this direction.

@augieray indeed I have seen a number of business owners put a big declaration in the newspaper stating they are being forced to close because “nobody wants to work” (for little pay).

I find it telling that all the taverns and other will get together to lobby to ensure the minimum wage does NOT increase but yet they are all against organized labor in principle too (so they can collaborate but ordinary workers should not?!). This is a form of .

@GreenFire I am disappointed to say the least. Many people are especially in harms way because of the election results.

With that being said, I don’t agree with the idea that democrats should not criticize their own base. Without being able to respond to and grow from criticism the party will not succeed (indeed they appear to not be succeeding).

@jeffjarvis There are places in the world such cases aren’t uncommon. Ironic that both “eating bear” and “cutting off that whale’s head” both sound like they could conceivably be the cause but likely aren’t.

@augieray while Democrats are far from perfect, Kamala was an obviously far better choice than Trump for many reasons.

It is both true that the folks who actually voted for Trump are owed the blame for him being elected AND that Democrats could benefit from some introspection.
