A timely and rather shocking meme, to which I have added #AltText...

#Climate #ClimateChange #ClimateCrisis #ClimateEmergency

Two panels, one above the other...

In the top panel, a man lying in a hotel bed, getting ready to go to sleep, calls the front desk on the hotel phone, and says, "Hi, I'd like a wake-up call."

In the panel below, a female hotel employee, sitting at a desk in front of a computer screen, answers the call, and says: "The seven hottest days on Earth in the last 100,000+ years all happened in the last week."

I had a fantastic 2.5 week #holiday visiting friends and walking the #WestHighlandWay. Hadn't felt this fulfilled and happy in years! It created space in my mind and reduced anxiety so much, I could cry from realising that the actual happy me has not been lost🌻

Been back at work now for a few days only, and I can feel the mindspace and relaxation wane already. It only took a day for my back/neck ache to return so I'm really trying to not get sucked back into the stressed #PhD life

Joined my first #ExtinctionRebellion action yesterday! It was intense but went well. Good atmosphere at the start with lots of supporters and I love how well XR is organised and with a lot of care! Did stay and got soaked by the water canons but not as bad as some others. First time going to the police station but although stressful was alright. Glad I was home before midnight! Love to all the fellow rebels and supporters!

Sadly, one of the easiest things to forecast in science in the near term is atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations. Here's a plot of the monthly CO₂ concentrations from Mauna Loa, Hawai'i through Nov 2022 plus a ten-year forecast. Based on nothing but this dataset, there's a 50% chance the 1st month with CO₂ at 430ppm is reached in 2026 and 50% chance the 1st month with 440ppm is in 2030. We'll know we're making real progress when we start to bend this curve. @ZLabe

Couldn't find my #wallet this morning, and realised I hadn't seen it since Saturday. It was indeed still in my bag in my bicycle pannier, parked outside my flat. Lucky!

Illegale nederzettingen in bezet gebied, zoals in Palestina, zijn een schending van internationaal recht.

Toch staat de EU nog altijd handel met hen toe. Daar moet voor eens en altijd een einde aan komen.

Didn't feel well for a few days leading up. Now a really annoying neck/headache, also around the eyes. Really weak muscles, sore throat, bit of a cough, temp at 37.9. Feels a bit like when I had covid in the summer but not as intense. Tests give dubious results so far. What do you think? #covid19 or not?

@thierna interesting, never heard about it in English! "Hem" is "him" in Dutch though..

Shoutout to my PhD supervisors for listening & quickly initiating a plan to help easy my workload! It was embarrassing to cry from being overwhelmed for such a long time but I was so close to quitting altogether and I didn't expect anything to change. But I haven't been this relieved in a long time. Haven't felt this hopeful about actually making it to the end of my #PhD in ages.

They do ask to indicate in time when I need help. It's just so hard to know when is early enough. Guess I was late!

Entertainer, childhood literacy advocate, and scientific philanthropist Dolly Parton was born in 1946.

Mostly known for singing and songwriting, Dolly's Imagination Library program has distributed over 100 million free books to kids around the world.

Normally I do posts for scientists and mathematicians, or important discoveries. But Dolly Parton has done as much as any living person to promote childhood literacy so I am proud to include her on the list.
