I canβt tell you all how amazing my friends are.
One has lent me money for bond and moving costs for when we find a new home, and was investigating walkers and wheelchairs for me.
Two others have given me $500 each towards the moving costs.
A lovely lady from the Facebook #LongCovid group gave me some money to help out with immediate needs when my flatmate got Covid again and i couldnβt afford the preventative measures others were using.
And now a friend has gifted me a brand new walker that converts to a wheelchair so Iβm able to get out of the house a little more and regain a bit of independence. She even picked the colour based on what would best match my wardrobe. Just an extra little bit of thoughtfulness thatβs so incredibly appreciated.
If nothing else good comes of this, i have learned that the people around me are wonderful, loving, caring and generous and for that i will be eternally grateful.
I include my mastodon family in that group. This is such a safe and kind and supportive and wholesome place and i appreciate it so much.
Iβm struggling with seeing the new me as anything but someone trapped in a body that continually lets them down.
I sent a pic of cooler morning snuggled in bed (when I was glad I didnβt have to get up), hair in two braids (being the only way it has been worn in many months now because itβs manageable that way), no makeup and an attempt at a smile. I debated sending an older, βprettierβ pic but decided I wanted to be true to the new me.
I think itβs important to represent both though. The life weβve lost and the love weβre now living.
still find it mind shattering that the early months of the pandemic, when we knew basically nothing about the disease, there was a collective response to prevent infections
year 5, we know so much, and it's devastating
-immune dysfunction from even non-serious acute infections
- millions with long term chronic outcomes
-unsustainable healthcare strain
-constant evading mutations making vaccine approach ineffective
the future gets worse with every week of no action

Long Covid is much more prevalent among women, which at least partially explains the lower number of men coming forward.
Please feel free to share in your neighbourhood, especially if you think those high schoolers might be interested. Itβs hard enough as an adult but seeing kids, of any age, having to deal with it really breaks my heart.

On Saturday mornings while the dog is being walked, I pour a second cup of coffee and take a backwards stroll through things I missed in the week. The balance of news and snow pictures is weirdly magical in an Australian summer. Go well all of you, thanks for all the labour of showing up here, our world is in a fragile state.
@MarjorieMorgan @Lazarou itβs extra heartbreaking when itβs a child.
Emily, an incredible Canadian artist with #LongCovid, is putting together an amazing project to be displayed at the Art Vancouver Fair in April and spread awareness for long Covid. Sheβs looking for people with long Covid, or whoβve recovered from long Covid to participate by sharing a picture of their face, which will be displayed anonymously (without names) on a hospital gown.
If youβre happy to participate or would like to find out more, contact details for Emily, and more information about the project, are provided in the attached link.
