Born in 1906, computer scientist Grace Hopper invented the first compiler for computer programming language & was among the first programmers of the Harvard Mk1 computer.

Hopper popularized the idea of machine-independent programming languages & paved the way to develop COBOL (an early high-level programming language). She originated the term "bug" to describe computer glitches & became a celebrated Rear Admiral in the US Navy.

I don't get a lot of feedback when I post on social media. Which is because I don't post very often. Which is because I'm busy writing my second feature screenplay. I think I'm good with that.

Cheers, and happy writing.

Google keeps serving up bad reviews of this season of Ted Lasso. I like this season just fine. Not sure what people expect. It does a good job of being funny and poignant in equal measure.

If you have a "Well actually" or a counter argument, just don't.

@ewdocparris I don't usually jump in on these subjects, but I consider the last 5 episodes of Ted Lasso to be among the best shows I've seen in a long time. Exceptional writing, in my opinion.

I was wondering why the 5th book in my Novum scifi series is suddenly selling so many copies, then realized that maybe it's because it's listed as my "most popular" book on Amazon. I hope readers understand that it's the last book in my series, and not the first. ๐Ÿค”

It's a bit depressing to realize that my newest scifi 5-book series has far more positive reviews than my first novel, but doesn't sell anywhere near the numbers of that single book. Maybe it's the glut of indie books available today vs. ten years ago, or the drop in the number of people who still read books, or something else. I guess I just need one semi-famous person to say they like it, and the flood gates will open. That is my dream, anyway. ๐Ÿ˜€โ˜น

Found one of my books on #eBay again. Why buy a new copy of my novella on #Amazon for about $7 when you can buy a perfectly good used copy for just under $60? ๐Ÿ˜Ž

I programmed two 1st-person computer #games (including my own rendering engine and sound effects) from scratch in the 90s, and self-published six #scifi #books since then, do you think would create my #author #website using anything other than pure old-school HTML? ๐Ÿ˜Ž

I'm sitting in a cafe trying to write "short" scene descriptions for my next screenplay/novella on my smartphone and I can't stop myself from diving fully into the dialogue. The characters are already becoming "sentient" and speaking for themselves and I'm not quite ready for that.๐Ÿค”๐Ÿคฃ

This is a dedication page I wrote for my first book back in 2008, but it applies to every story I have written since then. I prefer stories about ordinary people in extraordinary situations.

Quite happy with new #KindleCreate app and how fast and easy it was to format all of my book manuscripts into perfect #Kindle #ebooks. I highly recommend this!

@JosephRhea I think other writers might experience "writer's block" as "I have nothing to write." My experience is more like, "I can't pick which way this story should go next; if I choose option A, what if option Q would have been better?" Not an absence of ideas, but an overabundance. There's always something to write, but "which one is the RIGHT one" gets me all too often.

Today was the first day in months that I had a completely free day to write.

So, obviously I spent it tweaking my author website and watching several streaming tv series.

Don't judge me...

My books are currently "selling like hotcakes" on Amazon.

If that sounds impressive, when was the last time you bought a "hotcake" on Amazon? ๐Ÿคจ

Just thinking about what makes one tv series absolutely riveting while another is just interesting? Is it the writing, the directing, the acting, or the subject matter? It's easy to say all four, but I think it starts with great writing. A great story inspires directors and great dialogue inspires actors. It all starts with putting words on a page.

Some writers are plagued by a lack of a lack of good story ideas. I'm in the other group, in that I'm burdened by an overwhelming number of stories in my head as well as all of the different ways each can be told. Both hinder what should be the simple act of "getting words on a page."

Have you ever owned something that was technically "valuable" but couldn't find anyone who wanted to buy it?

I have two 100-year-old oak and brass binnicles (5-foot tall ship compasses) that I have owned for about 30 years. I see this exact style for sale in maritime stores for about $5k each, but I can't find a buyer for even a tenth of that. Makes you realize that a thing is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.๐Ÿค”

#ChatGPT describes my novel CYBERDROME (part 2 of 2):

The comparisons to Isaac Asimov's Foundation series highlight its blend of science and technology with the exploration of societal and cultural issues. If you're a fan of science fiction or technology-driven thrillers, Cyberdrome may be the perfect book for you.

These are the software's words, not mine. But I like them! ๐Ÿ˜Ž
