Today's new episode of The Tonearm Podcast features vibraphonist, marimbist, and composer Patricia Brennan discussing her stunning new album 'Of The Near And Far' on which she uses constellations as the foundation for compositions that blend jazz, classical, and post-rock.

In conversation with host Lawrence Peryer, Patricia explores her unique system of superimposing astronomical patterns onto the circle of fifths, how her engineering family shaped her approach to music, and the way she bridges Mexican marimba traditions with contemporary chamber music.

wwwobble update: you can now add code editor elements from within the UI. The `<wobble-code>` element makes it possible to live update any HTML within a webpage. It is also available outside of wwwobble as a web component & published on npm.
Documentation here: wwwobble.org/guides/code-edito and here wwwobble.org/develop/wobble-co

Funny how quick "I need guns to resist a fascist government" turns into "She'd be alive if she'd followed cops' orders."

CORRECTION!
Turns out the Reddit post I shared isn’t credible so I’m retracting screenshots.
These things only distract from the real issues, which are serious enough on their own.

I do believe the exploitation & manipulation concerns are legitimate though.
The Human Rights Watch’s report does lay out thoroughly, how platforms exploit workers, underpay them, & avoid responsibility -all while framing it as progress.

Worth a read even if the whistleblower post was fake

Some more artists working in the 1920s whose art I would like to eat up with a spoon:

Gunta Stölzl, a textile artist who was part of the Bauhaus with Anni Albers.

This is 'Slit Tapestry Red/Green, 1927-1928'. Like, WTF. What a vision, and then to realise it *in fabric*!

A colourful abstract wall hanging with blocks, stripes, and waves of colour, sometimes it seems like a city, sometimes the sea.

The sky is on fire again… endless bombing, explosions shaking the ground beneath us. We’re hiding under a thin tent that can’t protect us from the shrapnel or the fear.Children are crying, mothers are praying, and we’re just hoping to survive the night. Please, don’t look away — we are still here, still alive, still afraid.💔😭
Pray for us, and speak out for us…we need your voices.🙏

"AI MUST DIE" · is a short zine that presents critical perspectives on the way that AI is talked about, governed, and owned in 2025.

👉🏻 aimustdie.info/

The image is a book cover with a photograph and text. The title of the book is “AI MUST DIE” in large, bold, black letters on a white background. Below the title is the subtitle “Critical Perspectives on the State of Artificial Intelligence” in smaller, black font.

The photograph depicts a robotic device, resembling a floating, cylindrical sensor, partially submerged in a water fountain. There are people visible in the background, near a tan building with columns. The fountain has green plants surrounding it, and the water appears murky.

At the bottom of the cover is text reading “Incident 68: Security Robot Drowns Itself in a Fountain” followed by “AI Incident Database” and the URL “incidentdatabase.ai”.

Had so much fun riding through Sefton park to the Stranger Things theme with our kids on the Liverpool last night, led by all the kids at the front. Felt so good to take over the roads around Lark Lane!

I did something exciting this week! I relaunched my company website: futureethics.ai

It says, boldly, that we want to build ethical and sustainable pro-labor businesses that are pro people and the earth. It's scary to put that out in words because I feel like such an optimistic or naive person. But I don't know how else I can be.

I also started a Mastodon server just for work: @index

Over there, I will talk more about work, ideas, ethics, provide updates.

This post should give you an idea of how I'm structuring this: futureethics.ai/our-2026-busin

My thoughts on social media bans everywhere is that if you're taking digital connections away from teens, you better make sure they have third spaces for physical connection, and give them options for transport that is not "parents drive us around" otherwise all you're creating is isolation.
And you may not need a social media ban if you start by preserving and creating those third spaces. #SocialMedia

You'll read (indeed may have already read) a lot about the Covid Inquiry this weekend, but if you haven't then one piece you *should* read is Rachel Clarke's view from within the NHS.

'The NHS was overwhelmed. People died who could have been saved. These deaths are facts that cannot be denied. And I will never forget what I saw. My NHS colleagues & I weren’t willing to let the bodies pile high in their thousands. [Boris] Johnson no longer mentions them at all'!
