When is a tax rise not a tax rise, when its achieved through fiscal drag... the holding of income tax threshold while wages are rising, thereby rising the proportion of the low paid workforce who will be paying income tax.

This will do something to balance off the 'costs' of the concessions on PIP Payments, but while this will also bring (even) more people into the higher rate tax band; so if you intuit that this is very different from taxing the wealthy, you'd be right.

At times like these, it is incredibly important to remember that the peoples, cultures and faiths of what we now call the Middle East have lived together in peace for centuries.

We are being fed a story of eternal irreconcilable hatreds to stop us from seeing what's really happening. That the violence we see today is rooted in 20th-21st century imperial exploitation.

Don't fall for the racist, Orientalist lies.

I agree that the Middle East is locked in a spiral of violence, or however the talking heads are going to put it this time.

I don't agree with the racist lie that this is somehow an intrinsic, permanent feature of the area.

The cause of the violence is a century of European and American imperialism, settler colonialism, exploitation and war.

Stop the bombing, stop the ethnic cleansing and settler colonialism. It is the only way to a lasting peace.

If we want to talk about the deeper roots of these conflicts, let's do it.

Let's talk about a century of colonialism. Of merciless exploitation by European countries, by oil companies and "strategic interests".

Let's talk about a settler colonial state founded by ethnic cleansing, whose basic security policy is endless war against its neighbors and territorial expansion.

Let's talk about a superpower that regularly invades and bombs the area, and leaves pure chaos in its wake.

Britain is spending billions building up its nuclear arsenal so it can maintain "a seat at the top of the diplomatic table".

Meanwhile Keir Starmer continues to support the war crimes of Netanyahu and Trump.

Progressive Britons are worried about Farage's Reform gaining power. They should worry more about the current government.

@ChrisMayLA6 Clearly they don’t care about the country they live in, just their money, while asylum seekers are often desperate to give something back to the country that supports them to survive. Yet we lionise the one that would contribute, not the other.

Lets be clear; changes to tax laws do not 'force' the wealthy to leave the country.

The wealthy are choosing not to increase their contribution to the country they are (currently at least) living in.

Sure that is a choice they are free to make, but its their choice; no-one is forcing them into anything.

They already have enough money, so refusing to pay higher taxes is a choice about what they wish to support in their (for now) home country!

They are not victims!
