@kristiedegaris I've not flown except for work since 1975, and not at all since 2008. There are lots of places around the world that I've never seen and would like to see, and places I have been I'd like to revisit. But these are not big wants. There are also places within cycling distance I've not seen. I'm not persuaded that flying does enhance life much.

And, as you say, the planet cannot afford it.

We need to correct a false narrative that the climate threat is under control. The enormous risks are potentially catastrophic. They would undo the connections between human and ecological systems that form the basis of all of our civilisation.

If the risk of a plane crashing was as high as the risk of the Amoc collapsing, none of us would ever fly because they would not let the plane take off. And the idea that our little spaceship, our planet, is under the risk of essentially crashing and we’re still continuing business as usual is mindblowing.

A new toolkit for workplace climate action called The Green Workplaces Toolkit has been published by the TUC to address the climate emergency, future-proof jobs, and negotiate greener and fairer workplaces.

Incredibly detailed and full of good info it’s a whopping 174 pages long. A thorough contents page can help you navigate to the sections required for your own specific workplace. Plus there is a fantastic 15 minute ‘online course’ addressing ‘How to start talking about climate in every workplace’ – something anyone concerned about the climate could benefit from.

Whilst the toolkit focuses on how unions can organise workplace campaigns and negotiate with employers to create more sustainable workplaces, adaptions can be made for the circumstances of freelancers and the self-employed.

The aim of the handbook is to provide case studies, ideas, information, inspiration and tools for impactful workplace and community action to take place across all sectors.

There is a section for ‘anchor institutions’ (local authorities, universities etc.) as well as sections on travel, buildings and planning for future skills needs. Templates are provided throughout to make things easier e.g. a transport review, and a survey for greener workplaces.

It's an ongoing and long-lived story, with absolutely NO salvation.
Privatisation of public utilities. The UK has been on the forefront of this. [That is, when things weren't already in private hands, like the US] And it has proven to be one big disaster.
No maintenance and no regard for life in general, as long as profit can be made. And it's easy, billing won't be a problem. Who can survive without a sewer, or gas or electricity. JUst run it down and if you have to invest => raise the price.
No wonder there so much poverty [and riches] in the UK.
