It's possible that Meta/Threads will interoperate with the Fediverse to expand people's access to each other in purely cooperative ways, for everyone's benefit.

But history tells us that it's vastly, vastly, vastly more likely that the Meta will, borg-like, follow Big Tech's normal pattern of "embrace, extend, extinguish" -- because there's no history of giant platforms doing anything else.

So we all need to prepare, right now, for what we do about it -- and not wait until it happens.

The bug that prevented our headlines showing up on #Facebook for five weeks has been fixed. As usual, the tech companies blamed the user, though we knew better. With no intervention from us, things came right.
It begs the question of who is still there on Facebook? We spy a few long-time readers liking posts, but interaction is nowhere near what we have here on a fraction of the followers. If it weren’t for some of them, we’re not sure we’d bother.
We walked away from our Myspace, after all …

I finally blocked Threads from federating with goblin.band.

I acknowledge, 100%, Facebook's right to join the fediverse and do whatever their want with the open standards that powers it. That's why they are open, they can be used even by people we don't like.

I also acknowledge our rights to not wanting to have anything facebook-related in our neighborhood. So yeah, goblin.band and Threads won't be playing together.
