Whins (Common Gorse) flowering yesterday in the #sunshine. Lovely view overlooking Edenderry, Townland: Ballynahatty. On the path from Giants Ring #henge to Minnowburn.

While I was keeping an eye out for items, I also noted this apple tree which grows wild in a field hedge.

It always bears a good crop, and I saw not only that it still bore some fruit that hadn't dropped, but it also had a bough of apparently fresh leaves.

My only proper wildflower of the whole week. A daisy. I saw lots of these, but all the usual suspects seemed to be taking a week off. #WildflowerHour #plants #flowers #wildflowers

A small flower, growing near ground level, with a ring of white ray petals (technically florets rather than petals) surrounding a circle of very small yellow florets.

Bright sightings in the woodland yesterday on my walk at Streatley (W. Berks): spurge laurel (daphne laureola) and hazel catkins. #wildflowerhour

Temperatures are unusually high and the first daffodils in bloom were sighted here in Amersfoort on 2 January. I saw some Rhododendron buds opening and some daisies on my walks.

A very slim selection for this year.

Severe frosts before Christmas and then a lot of rain seems to have done for greater variety - I've recorded 20+ in previous nyphs.

Anyway:

Common Field Speedwell, Veronica persica
Shepherd's Purse, Capella bursa-pastoris
Probably Common Ragwort, Senecio spp.
Daisy, Bellis perennis
Dandelion, Taraxacum spp.
Gorse, Ulex europaeus.

A bit of gorse (Ulex europaeus) on Cissbury Ring in Sussex - the only thing I saw in flower on the whole walk. A bit late for because I am not yet recovered from yesterday’s carbonated wines.

The only plant I've seen in flower this week when I've had a camera is gorse. So here's a gorse flower, from my drive home after Christmas on Tuesday. #Beaconsfield services on the M40 have a duck/wildlife pond round the back. I'd love to claim that's dew on the flower, but I don't really do early mornings - it was drizzle. #WildflowerHour #Buckinghamshire #botany #plants #flowers #wildflowers #plantscience #photography

Continuing the (newish) tradition of going up to Helmsley on the edge of the North York Moors for a new year's day walk. Anticipated the stark drama of the castle ruins, and the restful pastoral of the grazing sheep... but delightful surprise to see opening racemes of hazel catkins kicking off a fresh season of regeneration #silentsunday #wildflowerhour #yorkshire

My #NewYearPlantHunt results reduced by a 3rd this year, though could have had a couple more if the sun had come out. 🙄 All soggy looking! #WildflowerHour

Winter Heliotrope, Petasites fragrans #Asteraceae -- in flower at Phoenix Gardens, a wonderful sanctuary behind busy shopping streets, close to St Giles in the Fields, London. It is a close relative of #Butterbur, a plant I would like to see more often. #WildFlowerHour because all tamed flowers are wild somewhere, this has been naturalising since C19 #FlowerReport *dioecious (usually male I think), grows from rhizomes

Florets of Winter Heliotrope, stamens sticking out, round buds lower down the stem, with large rounded heart shape, slightly toothed leaves.
