Don't you just love the way Meta platforms work(!)

Using my laptop, on Instagram, I created a post with two photos. Then I wrote a lengthy caption — longer and more detailed than usual.

I clicked the Post button, and after spinning for a while, it announced that one of the photos did not have an allowed aspect ratio!

Why did it not check that *before* I wrote the caption?!

Even better, everything I wrote was lost. I know — I should have written it in a text editor and used copy & paste.

@autoperipatetikos You've got a lot going on, Mary! It's such a nice change to hear that a doctor showed some understanding about what it was like at your workplace! I hope you get through the funeral without feeling exhausted.
(I recently opted out of a party connected with my fiancée's family because there will be relatives of hers there who made me feel like I wasn't welcome at a funeral last year.)

@atpfm I’m glad you've been talking about archived contacts. I’ve wanted this for years. There are people I would never want to phone again, but I’d still like to know it’s them in case they phone me. And I’d like to retain a named history of calls and messages.
Also, I’d never be able to delete my late wife as a contact, even though I will never message her again. But it can be jarring to see lost loved ones in the main list.

@estherschindler.bsky.social I feel very saddened to hear this. I watched so many reruns of The Computer Chronicles, I felt like I knew him.

Is it time to abolish the BBC TV licence?

The latest scandal with the way the BBC's 2024 Panorama documentary edited Trump's speech makes me want to cancel even more — and I'm not even a Trump supporter.

It’s hard to believe that my dad would have been 106 today.

I shared a short piece reflecting on how my dad became my best friend in the 1980s, and how I cherish the memories of our Sunday afternoon bike rides.
