Hi! I am an advisor to European University at St. Petersburg rector on digital transformation, HR and MOOC's issues. Since 2019, I have also been a Researcher at our Center for Institutional Analysis of Science & Education, consulting and conducting research on climate change sciences, higher education studies and geography of research funding. Obviously there is a selection bias here, but of US scientists who answered a Poll in the magazine Nature 75% said they were considering emigrating...
Says it all really about the disaster than is unfolding for science in the US.
And remember, an attack on science anywhere is an attack on science everywhere.
Building on this topic and expanding on the idea suggested by @kta, I analyzed the number of questions posted on gis.stackexchange.com over the past decade, focusing on the most popular geospatial libraries in #rstats and #python. The cumulative sum of daily questions suggests a close competition between the two, although #python gained popularity during the COVID-19 years.

Two more translations of the Barcelona Declaration have been published!
German translation: https://barcelona-declaration.org/downloads/barcelonadeclaration_deutsch.pdf
Russian translation: https://barcelona-declaration.org/downloads/barcelonadeclaration_russian.pdf
Many thanks to @hauschke and other @tibhannover colleagues for preparing the German translation, and to @dkochetkov for preparing the Russian one.
For the full list of translations, see https://barcelona-declaration.org/translations/.
@leidenmadtrics @cwts my academic journey has been marked by a dynamic transition from geomorphology to the field of scientometrics. There is only one other individual I know of with a similar career trajectory: Vladimir Moskovkin from the former Russian-Ukrainian border. I am proud to see that, with his extensive experience, he has highlighted the significant connection between the father of geomorphology, William Morris Davis, and the father of scientometrics, Eugene Garfield.
Omg, I can’t breathe 🤣
The Irish People's Party poster girl is a RUSSIAN girl living in Saint Petersburg. The photographer who took the shot is from Russia too. The Irish People's Party just bought that photo from Shutterstock.
1. Irish People's Party banner
2. Photographer’s Instagram where she showcases her work
3. The model, Julia Olina
Like, ffs, these fascists failed even to find a nice Irish model for their campaign.

"Results show that for most countries country self-citations have decreased over time. 12 countries, however, exhibit different behavior, with anomalous trends of self-citations. 😱 We argue that these anomalies should be attributed to the aggressive science policies adopted by these countries in recent years, which are all characterized by direct or indirect incentives for citations".
Next Tuesday #SorbonneUniversity organizes a highly interesting online event 'Focus on Open Science' https://scholarly.events/chapter-xliii-sorbonne/. Registration is still open!
I will talk about the #OpenEdition of the @cwts #LeidenRanking, to be released next month. @neesjanvaneck
There will also be important discussions about developments toward open research information in France, including the recent decision by #SorbonneUniversity to move from proprietary to open bibliographic databases https://www.sorbonne-universite.fr/en/news/sorbonne-university-unsubscribes-web-science.

British Academy is doing a cool research funding trial where they randomly allocate small grants, for all applicants above a quality threshold (with advice from @aidybarnett).
Two rounds done & the things that could look promising do: more geographical, ethnic and gender diversity. For more see:
I've been wittering on about the potential value randomisation since before 2011 - it’s great to see it getting tested closer to the mainstream.
Update. "Non-native English speakers face additional barriers to scientific publishing, from journal guidelines accessible only in English to higher rates of language-related manuscript rejection. Journals, congresses, and others are beginning to offer support ranging from English language mentoring programmes, training, and buddy systems to free AI proofreading tools."

What is the cost of science being conducted in English? @tatsuya_amano &co reveal that non-native English speakers spend more effort than native speakers in conducting scientific activities (reading, writing, preparing presentations...) #PLOSBiology https://plos.io/46Rfptc
