#Xubuntu users! Do you still use "indicators"? In particular, the ones that are not compatible with the modern KStatusNotifier spec?
Xubuntu ships the Xfce Indicator and Systray plugins as well as "indicator-messages." Does indicator-messages (the mail icon indicator) still work? Should we consider dropping the Indicator plugin for 25.10 to fix issues like these? I'm leaning towards yes.

@xubuntu 25.04 is looking pretty dreamy now that the wallpaper has landed.
Please help us test the next release, due one week from today: https://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/467/builds
@bookwar I’m pretty sure this is Xfce!

GIMP 3.0 Stable Being Released As Long-Awaited Update To Adobe Photoshop Alternative
After some 13 years of writing about GIMP 3.0 development, today is finally the day: GIMP 3.0 has been tagged and is in the process of being released...

Thanks for all the feedback.
Based on this, I'm creating a TOTP test suite.
The basic idea is to create a bunch of optauth:// URls, encoded as QR codes, to see if your MFA app will handle them appropriately.
@vinzv It’s painful to watch. Firefox has a small and loyal privacy-minded userbase with particular morals. Its development and focus has been at odds with those users for a long time now. If a browser lives and dies by its users (or worse, profitability), Mozilla is making all the wrong moves.
I see more people suggesting Firefox is doomed, thanks to updates to their privacy policy: https://blog.mozilla.org/en/products/firefox/firefox-news/firefox-terms-of-use/
The alternatives recommended are LibreWolf, ZenBrowser, (and probably others) Firefox forks. If Firefox disappears, will these forks live on?
We dig into the technical details of the Linux Kernel Rust drama.
Reminder that you only have a few days to directly download your Kindle books from the web for backup or conversion.

(*You know it's exciting because of all the exclamation marks)
@everything1saws0me Yeah, I tested the recommendations and other popular themes and none of them provided a better experience without weird issues. Themes just don’t have the same level of support these days.
Landlord just raised my rent, so if you’d consider sponsoring @elementary I’d appreciate it 🙏🏼 https://github.com/sponsors/elementary
We’re about to land the workspaces switcher in the dock and the new multitouch gestures backend is almost ready, so there’s cool stuff to test in early access. And don’t forget you get a monthly email from me, sometimes with stuff that doesn’t make it into the blog. And sponsors only chat on discord!
Helping me pay rent 🤝 getting perks
Do you have a few minutes to spare in the next few days? Mind testing a @xubuntu point release?
#Xubuntu 24.04.2 is ready for testing on https://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/465/builds
It features #Linux kernel 6.11 (formerly 6.8) and numerous bug fixes, including the obscure xfce4-panel crash on close: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-panel/+bug/2064846
For an in-depth look at the package changes, you can take a peek at our manifest diff: https://github.com/Xubuntu/xubuntu-manifest/compare/24.04.1...noble-daily-live#diff-24e130eca188654ec3287ec9ba8d0473192ef822b12d48148254c7f357e5e4b1
Thanks for any testing you can provide (and record in the test tracker)!
Hello, Mastodon family! It's been a long time coming, but Xubuntu has officially left X behind!
https://x.com/Xubuntu/status/1886754277177123276
If you're still using X, consider sharing our update to spread awareness. We'll continue to bring you the best of #Xfce and #Linux... all in one place.
(edit: because everything is confusing and nothing makes sense... we're leaving X, formerly known as Twitter, not X11. Wayland is still very much in the future!)
@killyourfm Yes! Power Stone is a forgotten gem!
