ACM Creativity & Cognition is happening online next week in Gather. I am the virtual platform chair and I have spent WAY too many hours building a conference space that evokes London, as the 2026 conference will be in person in London.

Fully virtual conferences are accessible to all - sustainable, affordable, equitable, better for folks with caring responsibilities and those unable to travel due to VISA issues. C&C is fully virtual every other year. Join us! @acm_creativitycognition #SIGCHI

This recruitment poster contains a screenshot of a webpage with a colouring book. The poster says: "Call for Older Adult Participants: Online Co-Design Research Project. Artful Aging: A digital village for older adults to enhance social connectivity. Manitoba Project Node. We have developed a virtual platform that allows older people to connect, play games, make art and engage in movement activities with others, including family members in different locations, through computer video at the same time (or "live"). We would like feedback on the design and the interaction (or "game design") of this platform and the social, physical, mental and artistic activities included on the platform. This research has been approved by the Research Ethics Board at the University of Manitoba, Fort Garry campus. Is there a way to quickly jump between a location in a notebook in the viewer and the equivalent location in the Rmd source in RStudio? Similar to the < and > buttons in Overleaf that jump you to the correct portion of the latex source to/from the PDF output? I can't find any keypresses or menu items to do this. For big notebooks this would be super handy. #rstudio

Please help my summer research student complete his study. We seek older adults in Canada who use online banking to participate in a one-hour online (Zoom) study about setting up a delegate account so a family member or friend can safely assist with banking tasks. Please feel free to share this with others! Participants must be willing to have their web cam on and screen share while they try out our prototype. This study has been approved by our REB. #canada #finance #aging #winnipeg #fintech

Been getting several DMs about the #GenerativeArt banner image in my profile. It's an old render (from 2010) of a recursive #Voronoi projected into a #Quadtree. This video shows the interplay of 2 conceptual hierarchies:

1) Verlet particles with attractive/repulsive force fields are spawned in a squared 2d space and negotiate their positions over time. These positions are also used as sites for creating a dynamic Voronoi diagram to define cell structures around each particle. Each resulting Voronoi region can then become the physical (and constantly changing) bounds for the next level of recursion, spawning more particles to subdivide it into smaller regions. Each cell at each level is using its own Voronoi instance with sub-regions clipped to their respective parent region. The process becomes more and more local... The setup in the video has a maximum tree depth of 3.

2) A quadtree is used to visualize the hierarchy of cells from phase 1 and its depth structure represented as extruded 3D model (in isometric perspective). For this video the quadtree has a depth of 10 levels with the maximum level of recursion tracing/coinciding with the Voronoi cell edges. The elevation of cell walls depends on the depth of the cell in the original tree, with the cells at deepest level resulting in the tallest structures. Furthermore, the elevation is modulated by the distance of each point to the nearest vertex of its parent cell polygon/region...

Day 1 of no CBC on Twitter and my Twitter feed is still filled with people sharing links to CBC articles. I support the CBC, don't get me wrong, but this undermines the "paused activity" and helps Twitter continue.

If the CBC and other media are serious about withdrawing from Twitter, they need to remove the Twitter share button from their articles and nuke the Twitter autonomous system (block their IP) to prevent Twitter from generating link previews. #Canada #CBC #News #Media #birdsite

What a creative idea for a city-building sim!

“In most city builders you need to think big by expanding your city and slowly covering the available land with houses and factories. But what if the land you're building on is getting smaller and smaller while you're trying to build bigger?”
