As someone who always prefers websites over apps ( whether it be me writing a project or using a technology ), my favorite line from @pluralistic keynote in PyCon US is

"An app is just a website that we have wrapped in the correct DRM to make it a felony to protect your privacy while you use it"

I could use some help from my friends. I'm on with an NVIDIA GTX 1070.

It seems that EVERY OTHER GODFORSAKEN UPDATE I lose my NVIDIA driver.

I'm a fan of Fedora and KDE, am I right in hating NVIDIA as much as I currently do (for reference, I currently hate NVIDIA quite a bit)?

@Johannab I tried starting knitting earlier this year (before my official diagnosis as well), but life got in the way. This is a good sign to start trying to make that potholder again...

After some talks about #ADHD issues i had the following 3 insights:

# Why “Being Bored” Doesn’t Work Like It Used To

Being bored was relaxing as a child because there was no actual backlog. nowadays, even when i have "nothing to do", that's a lie -- and i know it and that's making being bored insufferable. thus, i need to

1. find a way to ignore this w/o escapism through e.g., meeting people despite not having energy to do, just because the prospect of facing this fact is more dreadful, and
2. actually reduce the # of things i'm responsible for RIP

# Doing Nothing != Expecting Nothing of Myself

When i have "nothing to do", this is often because i kept a day empty as a reward for me or finished tasks earlier than expected. in order to "relax" i then (unsuccessfully) try to just "not do anything". the problem here is that relaxing is not about not doing anything, but setting the expectation to not "finish" or complete something. it's not about what you do but what you demand from yourself. So i failed because

1. i was still expecting something from me, while i should not; namely, that i should do nothing (which i fail miserably at by doom-scrolling, or rabbit-holing in a slightly better scenario), and
2. i wasn't really doing something gratifying while i actually should do something when i'm relaxing (i just should not expect/demand it from me)

# Energy Needs Are Not Defined by the Task

It's a good idea to reward yourself after successfully completing a task. unfortunately, i often find myself to (seemingly) not have enough energy to... actually "do my rewards". and as i view(ed) my rewards as just new tasks... they suddenly require energy, even though they're gratifying. the thing is, with ADHD, the # of energy a task requires has almost nothing to do with the actual "power draw" of the task. reading a book can be absolutely impossible (task) or a power source (reward). So I failed because i was framing my rewards as todos "todo: reward yourself" and building an expectation (see insight No. 2). in my current mode of me thinking i was literally talking to myself "so, now, what to do/finish/work-on next?". that's wrong. the key thing is to actually frame things as a reward, and suddenly the same "thing" is not a power draw, but a power source.

With all that out of the way, let's see how much of these insights i can convert into action 0:-)

:blob_cat_giggle: ADHD meme to brighten your day during sad times.

#ADHD
#AuDHD

A meme depicting a person appearing distracted while sorting through a display of candy in a store, contrasting with a humorous commentary “ADHD people working on anything other than the thing they should be working on.” The image contains two photos: one where the person is organizing candy and another showing them smiling and giving a thumbs up with a big well organized Walmart bin of candy.

Honk and Bonk

Woodcarved humanoid goose wearing plate armour. She's holding a shield and a flanged mace. On the handle of the mace, a red robin landed. The eyes of the goose are made of glass. The feet and the beak are painted in burnt yellow, as the breast of the red robin. The upper part of the robin is painted in brown/grey and its eyes and beak in black.Another point of viewAnother point of viewAnother point of view
