Thomas J. Bata Library, Peterborough, ON, Canada.
Another riverside library, this time along the Otonabee river in central Ontario. Completed in 1968, the library is part of a true gem of a modernist college campus designed by Ron Thom.

Bibliothèque François-Mitterrand, Paris, France.
The new headquarters of the French National Library opened in 1996 in the Paris neighbourhood of Tolbiac, a new development on the site of a former glass factory. The design by Dominique Perrault arranged the collections in four L-shaped towers, representing open books. Public areas and offices are located in the sunken base.

Birks reading room, McGill University, Montreal, Canada.
Today's #FotoVorschlag (#Bücher #books) fits well with most of my usual content, although I rarely put books in the forefront. Here's a view through the narrow stacks of McGill's Birks reading room, formerly the Divinity Hall library. It was built between 1929 and 1931 and designed by Harold Fetherstonhaugh.

Jacob-und-Wilhelm-Grimm-Zentrum, Humboldt-Universität Berlin, Germany.
Starting this new week with a classic from my back catalogue, the main library at Berlin's Humbold University by Swiss architect Max Dudler, completed in 2009. The building is named after the brothers Grimm, known for their collections of folk tales and their seminal work in German lexicography.

Bibliothèque du Tribunal Fédéral, Lausanne, Switzerland.
Behind its austere Neoclassical facade, the Swiss Federal Court includes elegant rooms with discreet Art Deco flourishes such as the library. Completed in 1927, the building was the work of Alphonse Laverrière with Louis-Ernest Prince and Jean Béguin. The library was renovated in 2010 by Béatrice Clavel.

Bibliothèque d’Étude et du Patrimoine, Toulouse, France.
During the economic slump of the 1930s, Toulouse's socialist city council embarked on a series of large civic projects. A key element of its public education initiative was a new library, built by city architect Jean Montariol and completed in 1935. The vast reading room is decorated with frescoes by Marc Saint-Saens.

Weston Branch, Toronto Public Library, Canada.
Spring is infamously slow to come to Eastern Canada, which this week has seen the return of subzero temperatures and a fresh blanket of snow. Accordingly, here's a snowy shot of the Carnegie #library built for the town of Weston in 1914, now a branch of the Toronto Public Library system. It was designed by local architects Lindsay & Brydon.
