The COVID-related public health backlash has successfully gathered these political interests under a single libertarian-esque umbrella.

Now it's not just about calls for "freedom" but ALSO about spreading the toxic stew of culture war bullshit that's gotten mixed in too.

Also, the β€œdoor” to each pod is just a pull-down blackout fabric shade. That means no lock, and no sound muffling - which is probably why i heard my neighbors snoring and in the AM getting up, getting their stuff, zipping up bags & changing clothes because i didnt use earplugs

6. The @cdcgov
estimates that so far this year at least 4.4 M people have contracted #flu, 38000 have been hospitalized & 2100 have died.
That's a strange death toll for flu before Thanksgiving. But about that many Americans die per week from Covid still. cdc.gov/flu/weekly/

I guess it's time for introduction on #MedMastodon

Hey everyone, I am a researcher who studies medical #cannabis and #opioids in pregnancy and children (clinical trials baby!)

I'm a first gen academic and tired mom of two toddlers. Expect sarcasm and swearing. #medtwitter

We have decided to create an account at Mastodon. We need time to learn how this platform works but also how to synchronize our work here with the Twitter account.

Thank you all for joining us here. No matter where we are, the mission stays the same. We are in social media to commemorate the victims of Auschwitz and educate the world about the tragic story of the camp.

@gregggonsalves In the late 80s I was an RN working on a ventilator unit in a public hospital that served a relatively poor community. Saw so much suffering from AIDS. The sadness and sense of helplessness was overwhelming and traumatic. Covid unearthed all that grief. And it’s made worse by the politicization of it all. To see so much callousness and cynicism has been deeply, genuinely painful.

@gregggonsalves I am also starting out on a project trying to democratise causal approaches for social epidemiology and quantitative social science. We'll see where it goes, but would be nice to make a guide type publication

People grumbling that is slow at the moment... You just turned up with 1 million people in a tiny, rural village and you're complaining there's a queue to get into the only tearoom, which is run by gay pensioners Babs & Maureen as a retirement hobby on Mons-Weds. Relax!

What will always set this failure apart from similar historical collapses is that this was completely and utterly unnecessary. Doing **literally nothing different** would have kept Twitter functioning perfectly well. One galactic idiot torpedoed the whole thing, pointlessly. twitter.com/alexeheath/status/

This uplifts me during a rough week: #Edmonton #PublicLibrary is offering library users CO2 monitors to check out. Everyone can start taking measurements about indoor air quality -- and if it's not great, they can fix it or add air filters or wear better masks.
The library only announced it today and there are already 23 holds for 21 devices. People WANT to measure and improve #IndoorAirQuality, they just need tools + info!
