WHY YOU SHOULD BE KIND TO PEOPLE

Before I go to bed, let me just share these kookaburra pictures that I took today. I’m so chuffed with how they turned out!

@drnetty Do you know of the work of Saul Griffith? Fascinating. Some talks on YouTube. See also www.rewiringamerica.org. Australia is far ahead of the US in some repsecrts when it comes to electrification.

@Jock5862 Yes, sure do. He has done some great work.
Also, I really like Jeff Sparrow's works. Saw him talk in Albury. It was very inspiring.

Given that it is very unlikely that there will ever be 100% GHG emissions elimination, we also need to evaluate this equation for Carbon Neutrality:

(Residual emissions) - (carbon removed from the atmosphere) = 0.

Then push onwards to true carbon negativity. Thanks to Hugh McLaughlin for the idea for the formula.

BTW: Biochar is one tool for offsetting the inevitable residual emissions.

@Jock5862 it comes down to living in a post-fossil fuel world. I don't know how we get there, but getting off fossil fuels brings us back to a balanced carbon cycle (carbon into atmosphere = carbon out) that provides stability. If we can then store carbon as well, we can slowly provide some remediation, but if climate tipping points have been passed, this may not be possible. The crisis is locked in now, to some degree. How much is up to us as a civilisation.

I have read a number of passionate essays saying we must get endowments to divest from fossil carbon energy investments. Focusing exclusively on divestment, however, has the unintended and perhaps too convenient, consequence of taking the focus away from the consequences of our individual choices and their consequences. Perhaps we should ask ourselves to decarbonize our personal lives first?

We have to walk the talk we want others to also walk.

@Jock5862 With respect, the vast majority (70%) of emissions come from the top few hundred oil, gas & mining corporations. They have employed marketing strategies such as the concept of the 'carbon footprint' to transfer responsibility from them to us paralysing the individual with guilt. Meanwhile, their emissions continue, and their profit-making is uninterrupted. Put the blame where it belongs & #DemandAction #ClimateCrisis
