I have too many barbecues by some accounts.

Much less certain about most things than I used to be.

@sortius exactly. Been saying for several years now that too many people treat political parties like football teams. That leads to the kind of thinking that makes “beating the other team” the main objective.

The main objective is actual governance and we’re allowed to criticise poor governance regardless of who’s doing it.

If you make eg Butter Chicken with eg beef, what's it called?

I don't think "Butter Beef" is sufficient. I think it's "Beef Butter Chicken". Which makes the original "Chicken Butter Chicken" (the first "Chicken" is silent, as my coworker put it).

"For many technologists, the allure of digital tools is the possibility of emancipation, a world where we can collaborate to make things without bosses or masters. But for the bosses and masters, automation's allure is the possibility of getting rid of workers, shattering their power, and replacing them with meeker, cheaper, more easily replaced labor." @pluralistic pluralistic.net/2023/03/21/tec

Just under four hours since the last vote was cast, and the leader of the government respectfully concedes the result. We really do elections very well in this country, hey?

A Machine Learning algorithm walks into a bar.

The bartender asks, "What'll you have?"

The algorithm says, "What's everyone else having?"

Steve Schmidt, a man who’s definitely not a liberal (he was a White House advisor to George W. Bush and ran Bush’s 2004 re-election campaign as well as John McCain’s 2008 campaign), has been blunt about the impact of Fox “News”:

“Rupert Murdoch’s lie machine is directly responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Americans, the poisoning of our democracy and the stoking of a cold civil war. There has never been anything like it and it is beyond terrible for the country. Bar none, Rupert Murdoch is the worst and most dangerous immigrant to ever arrive on American soil. There are no words for the awfulness of his cancerous network.”

One of the cleverest ways the capitalists who destroy the environment distract us is by promoting a narrative of individuals "doing their part" and "pitching in," which predictably leads to us yelling at each other over things that amount to less than a drop in the ocean while corporations continue on pouring more carbon into the atmosphere than millions of individuals ever could.
They brilliantly coopted Earth Day in this manner, brainwashing children into fretting about how much time they spend in the shower rather than taking direct action against corporations.

A very pleasant afternoon at #Canberra Day (which is confusingly part of #Enlighten but on the other side of the lake). Good live music, short queues for food and drink.

Also, Bungendore gelato!

Interesting thread concluding that Samsung is using an AI model to replace users’ blurry, super-zoomed photos of the Moon with slightly higher res textures.

How did they discover this?

1. They downloaded a high res image of the Moon
2. Downscaled it to a blurry 170x170px image on their computer monitor
3. Took a photo of it on the Samsung with the room lights out

…and they got a magically higher-res Moon! Clever.
