I've been using in my recent papers. I think it really adds to the readability and understanding of the math.

Here are some examples. It uses in .

Let me know if you like it. Happy for any feedback.

An annotated equation in Latex.

The equation: Pro[X(.) \in S] <= e^epsilon . Pr[X(.) \in S]

The first X(.) is in a red box and a red arrow points to it with the annotation, "system state" on top of the arrow.

The first S is in a blue box and a blue arrow points to it (from below) with the annotation, "S \subset Range (X)" on the arrow.Another annotated equation:

Pr[R(Tau_i, j) \in S] <= e^epsilon . Pr[R(Tau'_j, j') \in S]

Both Tau's are in red boxes and have a (bidirectional) red arrow pointing to each other and the annotation "Tau_i, Tau'_i \in Gamma, the set of Tasks" on top of the arrow.

Both j's are in blue boxes and have a blue bidirectional arrow pointing to each other (below the equation) with the annotation "j, j' \in N" under the arrow.An annotated equation surrounded by text. The equation:
Lap(x | mu, b) = (1/2b)exp(-|x-mu|/b)

The first "mu" is in a red box and a red arrow points to it from the top with the annotation, "location parameter, mean" on top of the arrow.

the first "b" is in a blue box with a blue arrow pointing to it from below with the annotation, "b>0, scale parameter" on the arrow.

We see an equation number (3) to the right of the equation.Two annotated equations side by side.

Left equation: N_i = Q_p(t_{j+1} - t_j | for all j)

Q_p and for all j are in red boxes. t_{j+1} is in a blue box and t_j is in a brown box.

There is a long, red curly brace (sideways, pointing down) on top of the entire RHS of the equation with the annotation, "some annotation about the entire equation here". A blue arrow points to "t_{j+1}" from below with the annotation, "property of (j+1)^th item. A brown arrow points to "t_j" from the bottom right with the annotation, "j^th item" on the arrow.

The equation on the right:
X_i = 1/(Sigma{i=1}N Sigma{j=1}M_i(l^j_i/l^max))

N is in a purple box and we see a purple arrow pointing to it with the annotation, "number of objects" on top of the arrow. M_i is in a blue box with a blue arrow pointing to it with the annotation, "number of other objects" on the arrow. l^j_i is in a brown box with a brown arrow pointing to it and the annotation, "size of j^th service" on the arrow while l^max is in a green box and a green arrow pointing to it (from below) with the annotation, "maximum obj size" on the arrow.

@sibin Looks great. I imagine very useful in preparing teaching as well.

A lot of reference to the during the . Although are only part of one kingdom of given their diversity of and should they all be referred to jointly? I don't have a means of identifying this bird, it is not as elegant as some, but I am sure it is worth some interest. πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦

Wild mammals are atypical compared to the vast amount of human and domesticated biomass, but this lion managed to avoid being poached and gain the pleasant experience of sitting on a warm road surface in South Africa (and obtructing traffic!)

@JordanChetcuti This makes it very clear. Time to post atypical view of wild mammal.

This graphic helps me wrap my head around the magnitude of the problem. Notice the amount of current biomass for wild mammals (in green) versus that for livestock and humans. No wonder we have converging crises of biodiversity, fresh water, and climate. doi.org/10.1093/biosci/biac083

@pwgtennant I noticed this: I am not a publishing scientist for another reason: the science I have done in the last (quite a lot of) years has been protected by commercial confidentiality. I have been considering moving from mastodon.social because of the heavy load on it: considering also sigmoid.social and ecoevo.social but I realise not all scientists have such a diverse background as me.

@kfitz I have never worked in the humanities but I understand that the disciplines I have worked on have depended on changing trends in l recall sending responses to referees of my early publications by post. This has clearly been superseded. What you are working on seems very important.

From 24 November UCU members in UK higher education will be taking industrial action over pensions, pay, pay gaps, casualisation and workload ucu.org.uk/article/12469/FAQs

If you work in higher education and aren't already a member you can join here ucu.org.uk/join
And anyone can help support, by raising awareness and donating to the UCU fighting fund here: ucu.org.uk/fightingfund?_gl=1*

Text headed '5 reasons to join your colleagues in UCU' that lists reasons: actions to protect pay, conditions and pensions, saving jobs, fighting casualisation, challenging discrimination, and protecting against victimisation at work. Ends 'Join the wave for as little as Β£1 a month.'

@nisreen We have been given a rare and wonderful opportunity to reset. To realise the things that we accepted, but never should, and reflect on the behaviours we ourselves can change. I think this is a really exciting and hopeful time.

So, trying to figure out where all the epidemiologists are. I see them here and there on this site, but there is nothing like #epitwitter yet. If you see an epidemiologist wandering around Mastodon, send them my way!
