Apropos of several things floating across my TL, I just want to say as somebody who teaches college:
Yes, absolutely, politically conservative students on campus end up feeling uncomfortable in their views, constantly challenged. 100%.
So do leftists.
So do centrists.
So do students who attempt to be apolitical.
Nobody gets to hang out on campus feeling comfortable and cushy in their worldview. That is…you know…kind of the point of the place.

I’ve been watching the tv show of Brave New World this week and it is such an interesting show in regard to privacy.
It brought me to think about how
Privacy is also Individuality.
How could one develop their authentic and unique self without any privacy, without any freedom to experience their true self.
If we lose privacy,
we will lose so much of what being human truly means.

Companies who would sue the pants off me if I used their IP, anywhere in the world, want to use my IP for nothing.
The green revolution is underway! Solar and wind power are growing fast, with “renewable” energy becoming cheaper all the time. Electrical vehicle sales are going up, making huge profits for car companies. 😃
But if all this is so… then why do emissions of CO2, methane, and other greenhouse gases continue to increase? Why is global warming still getting worse? Haven’t we turned the corner yet? 🤔
No, sorry, we have not. We *might* have turned the corner by now, and obviously we *should* have long ago, but it hasn’t happened yet.
Why not? Well, because capitalist oligarchs and the neoliberal politicians they own are still in charge of everything.
So we watch our emissions continue to grow. Yes, “green” energy is on the rise, but it’s only adding to — not replacing — the amount of energy that our modern hyper-consumptive society requires.
Even though fossil fuels are gradually getting more difficult and more costly to extract and refine, there are still BILLIONS of dollars in profits to be made. And as long as capitalists can see a way to make money, they will. Never mind the externalities, like irreparable damage to the environment. That’s not important.
Oh, and by the way, it’s also very helpful for the corporate balance sheet when fossil fuel companies are gifted literally 💵trillions💵 of dollars every year in subsidies from friendly governments all around the world.
That’s where we are today. Same as it ever was. Nothing meaningful has really changed. 😡

No really. And Emergency Medicaid coverage that pays hospitals for uncompensated care of people who are not on Medicaid but otherwise eligible accounts for less than 1% of Medicaid spending.
