Really love the Volts podcast and I may have misunderstood this, but it appears to me that host David Roberts got conned here by Kraken's CEO who sold him a PR lie about "Making sure smart devices can talk to each other and the grid" and made it appear like he's talking about an open standard "like Bluetooth", but for smart devices.

When it's apparently just a certification of device compatibility with the guest's own product and no other competing product out there.

Gerade ein Artikel auf Spiegel gelesen und zig mal liest man "Merz hat auf X das geschrieben", "von der Leyen hat auf X jenes geschrieben",...

Und dann wird Trump zitiert, aber nicht von X sondern von seiner eigenen Plattform TrueSocial.

Warum glauben europäische Politiker immer noch, das sie auf X sein müssen? Sie müssen nicht da sein wo sie (glauben) das die Menschen/Medien sind. Anders herum wird ein Schuh draus, die Menschen und Medien sind da wo der/die Politiker*in ist. Wie man bei Trump und seiner obskuren Plattform sieht.

Ich will endlich in den Medien lesen "Merz hat auf social.bund.de geschrieben..."!

Ich würde eigentlich erwarten, dass die Führungsspitzen von Viessmann, Vaillant und Buderus langsam mal laut und deutlich sagen, dass hier gerade die akute Gefahr besteht, dass die Fossilnostalgiker in diesem Land die nächste deutsche Branche an den Rand des Abgrunds geleiten.

@dragosr a coordinated sudden major fluctuation of power *can* destabilise the grid.

If an adversary were able to remotely control a large amount of PV inverters within a country's grid, it would indeed be a possible attack vector, leading to an electricity blackout.

So if the story were true, hidden communication channels in Chinese inverters would be very much worth freaking out about.

The "rogue communication devices found in Chinese inverters" scare story is so light on details, I genuinely expect it to be a nothingburger.

My dumb guess is the PCB design simply contains standard multi-i/o-chips where much of the chip's capabilities aren't used in the inverter's firmware and aren't connected anywhere to any antenna inside of it.

It's just that the standard chip was cheaper to buy in bulk with that unused radio transmitter compared to sourcing a less popular chip without it.

But it makes a great story, especially if you want to raise fear about a foreign competitor. Hope to hear more details soon.

As a connoisseur of both a/v codecs and #Eurovision, I watch the #ESC show for the many moments when the elaborate visual effects are too much to handle for the broadcast video codec.

I've become convinced there's a secret competition among the stage production crews to break the video codec during the show and every time there are compression artifacts on the screen, it makes me smile. #esc2025

Still convinced that we're living in a Paul Verhoeven movie now.

Also, employees of companies selling AI products (such as Microsoft) have an obvious incentive to lie to their CEO about the percentage of AI-generated code they use in development.
