Just found a protest thead on Github for Google's Web Environment Integrity proposal: https://github.com/chromium/chromium/pull/187
A friend attending #ICML just sent me a photo of this front runner for best poster award.
I have a 10GB hard disk on Google Cloud. I have used up all the space.
So I've now discovered that Chromium takes 300 MB of space.
And that was a great time to learn that `apt-get remove chromium-browser` actually requires *more* disk space to remove software.
Welp.
Ryan Gosling as geese.
A thread.
Turns out that Web Environment Integrity proposal everybody is getting angry about (imo very legitimately) was effectively already shipped by Apple in Safari last year: https://httptoolkit.com/blog/apple-private-access-tokens-attestation/
That means if Chromium ships it too, we could quickly move to 90%+ of browser traffic being attested. Not good!
Let me tell you the secret of the "Everything App".
It's real, it's not called X, and it's about 33 years old. It's called a Web Browser.
Despite a decade of walled gardens trying hard to ruin it, you can still do pretty much any task you need on the web.
You can even make websites into apps with Progressive Web Apps (two clicks on WordPress).
The everything app is old, and under siege daily. But it works, it's resilient, and it's magical.
A few days ago I learned about grub theming and this is where it got me.
The entire Star Wars Franchise was purchased for 40 billion dollars less than Twitter. I think about that sometimes.
DeArrow extension for YouTube that makes thumbnails bearable
If you need to be delighted by something this morning, I present the tree goats of Morocco.
I was driving near Essaouira the first time I saw this and literally slammed on my brakes because I thought I was suddenly hallucinating. But then you learn how common it is and after a day or two it's, oh, yeah, more goats in trees.
Normalize this
(Updated: I changed Twitter to X and User to Profile. I intentionally left out Bluesky because their approach to profile naming doesn't fit this paradigm and precedent.)
@scottjshapiro What did it cost?
@devxvda The Weeknd would be very proud. I suppose they'll save their tears (of joy) for that day

As a member of #GenZ, this is my answer to why I avoid reading analog clocks.
@AlSweigart So many history movies (and even documentaries) strip out all the uncertainty that happened during the event and make everything feel way too clear-cut. It's like souped-up hindsight.
Also this is just a side note, but I remember reading your computer games python book as a kid, thanks for being an awesome part of my childhood 😂
My new social media app is called Grouse. You can only post criticism of the 3,000 other new social media apps.
Posts are called “Gripes.” No likes or reposts—just one button to “Commiserate.” If a Gripe receives enough Commiseration it’s elevated by the algorithm into a “Complaint.”
Also there’s an academic version called “Faculty Meeting.”
Just gotta say that I think one of the things that makes #Mastodon and the #Fediverse so great is that all of y'all are committed to building a less toxic, more inclusive social community online. Props!
@popcornreel I think we should all campaign for Biden to hang out on the Fediverse instead
