@jwilker Are you running stock software or something else?

@invoxiplaygames.uk I'm not sure I understand. Decentralized != uncensored. If instances want to censor other instances they can, and if users don't like that then they can move to a different instance, right?
@jerzone Can confirm. I use Firefox as my daily driver, but have to fire up Chrome or Chromium to run ESPHome and HomeAssistant both on my Linux machine and Android phone.
@Doug_Bostrom @ChristineMalec Alt text is a lot of fun when you find that sweet spot between being informative and being creative. It's an art form.
It's a bit frustrating that groups like indivisible.org, mobilize.us, and handsoff2025.com don't have RSS feeds to subscribe to. No, I actually really really DON'T want to follow you on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok. Aren't billionaire-controlled closed platforms kind of part of the problem right now?

Gadget question: I am looking for a tablet for #Zotero. Nothing too fancy, nothing too expensive, 11"-13". I donβt like iPadOS but prefer it over Android. Is there a Chromebook Tablet with decent hardware that can run native Zotero7 (and perhaps #Emacs)? Is there any decent Linux tablet? Those options would be preferable to the base iPad.
@santiago Oh cool! I still have a long way to go with my HA setup to make it bot army worthy π€
#funkwhale should become a decentralized music streaming app like pocketcasts is a podcast app. beyond their primary function, they both allow people to upload their own files. both should incorporate #ActivityPub so that we can recommend and comment on our favorite music and podcasts, but in a way that doesn't clutter up our "regular feed".
does that make sense?
@santiago Better get a another esp32 assigned to dishwasher duty π
@santiago I've got one that's surely wasting 239.999+ of it's MHz waiting for me to touch my bedside lamp to turn it out. Vigilant little thing is probably bored out of its mind.
@robert42 I'm assuming you have reasons for using a USB connection instead of turning your phone into a WiFi hotspot, but that's the solution I use.
Okay, I need your help!
I am finalising my PhD thesis at the moment, and it is "tradition" to have a quote at the beginning of each chapter. Now I want to be difficult: I want quotes from FEMALE astronomers / scientists talking about astronomy.
Shoot me your favourites pls ππ»
The same side of the Moon always faces Earth, but not in exactly the same way. Due to its tilted axis and elliptical orbit, we see about 59% of its surface over time. This simulation compresses a year into 60 seconds, making the Moon's apparent wobble, called libration, clearly visible.

@ipg This sounds like what Ira Glass refers to as The Gap

@thomasjwebb @etnevelarts Oh wow, cool, thanks so much! I feel like an idiot for not even thinking of that π€¦π»
@thomasjwebb @etnevelarts I don't mind it not being open source as I think what they've created is valuable and worth paying for, but their payment model does frustrate me. I paid for version 4, and I'd be happy to stick with that version, but I've upgraded my computer and lost that copy, and now that version 5 is out I can't find a copy of version 4 to install.
Question for my fellow RSS fans: Is there a way to allow someone to subscribe to an RSS feed to receive messages when items are added or removed from the feed? For certain people I follow I'd be interested in knowing when they find new sources interesting enough to add to their feed, or when they don't find a source useful anymore and remove it.

Thousands of experts across the sciences are suddenly looking for work. They are civil servants who have dedicated their careers to innovation, health & finding solutions to grand challenges.
It would be amazing if groups focused on the future would bring them in to build a strong S&T workforce. #science #uspol
I have Kiwix and an offline copy of wikipedia on my phone, and my local Gen Z was so surprised and excited by the concept that I thought we should have a dedicated thing for it. Cheap e-reader plus 128GB SD card plus no wifi.
Feel like it's time for a revolution yet?
Here's a radical action you can take, right now, tonight, that will cost you nothing, and will not put you at risk.
Find someone on the internet who is not a white American cishet male, whose life and work you value, and use your words to tell them.
Tell them their work makes your life better. Tell them you think they should exist. Tell them you value them.
Revolution doesn't begin with bombs and plots, it begins with community.
Go do community.
