You can learn a lot of useful OPSEC lessons by examining the ways in which people get caught, so I'm just going to leave this right here.

A reminder that you should probably be extremely skeptical of how any news outlet portrays community defense.

Minorities taking steps to protect themselves tends to scare the crap out of those who run the media.

🚨 Help us save history before it's gone! 💾

LGBTQ+ history is at risk. Materials are being erased, resources removed, and stories lost. That’s why we’re preserving queer history—but we need your help. If you have:

📰 Old LGBTQ+ newspapers, flyers, or zines
📸 Photos from past Pride marches, protests, or events
🎟️ Event posters, programs, or memorabilia
📄 Copies of government research or records

Send them our way!

@AnnaAnthro Can journalists PLEASE STOP seeing "access" as an asset and not a liability??

"Access" means you are compromised from the start.

You can (and can only) do actual journalism WITHOUT "access".

I wish that journalists would stop uncritically buying into Musk's framing of what DOGE is doing as an audit. You can tell it is not an audit because it is being done by people with zero experience in auditing and the methodology is "poke around in files, looking for keywords without any context."

Somehow the microblogging sphere (bluesky, fediverse, etc.) feels like the most up to date source for all the awful things that are happening nationally and yet somehow totally disconnected from what's happening locally as a result.

You folks are asking "where are the protests?" and making snide remarks about gun ownership while my city seems to have protests regularly now and communities are keeping Nazis away with armed deterrence.

I'm not sure if we live in the same reality sometimes...

Left-handed people have always existed and will always exist. We are happier, healthier, more capable when we just use our dominant hand (or hands) to write, and do complex tasks.

It's possible to try to force everyone to use the same hand this leads to frustration, can hinder education. It is pointless.

You don't need to worry about what hand other people use. It's none of your business.

If you have never thought about this be glad your dominant hand was the one everyone expected.

I’m seeing a lot of traction today on #LibraryRedAlert in light of the digital library burning the regime in DC has engaged in, and I’ve received a few DMs offering to help with the project.

We need more people willing to get involved. If you know folks who are willing to help preserve works, please please DM me.

growing up as a cis girl the patriarchy told me "you're a girl because of the way you were born, there is nothing you can do about this, you have no say in your gender" and i hated being a girl because it wasn't my choice it was a prison and the trans community told me "you're a girl because you say so, your view of yourself is the most important thing, if you change your mind that would be ok" and it made me proud to be a girl and feel empowered in my gender and i wasn't trapped anymore and then terfs come along and tell me "you're a girl because of the way you were born, there is nothing you can do about this, you have no say in your gender (but like in a woke way)" and they somehow expect me to be on their side?

Multiple cities reporting that ICE raids have begun.

I'm an immigrant & human rights lawyer. I wrote this on how to handle ICE, the actions each of us can take to protect our immigrant neighbors, & debunking anti-immigrant hate.

On January 17, 18:00-20:00 Central (US) time, Invisible Histories will be running a hackathon via Zoom to preserve LGBTQ digital records like websites, articles, and other online sources controlled or influenced by federal or state governments in the (US) south.

We need all hands on deck for this event. The organization running the hackathon will be able to provide very little tech support during the event. So you need to have skills at doing things like archiving websites and online materials.

@jeruyyap A lot of the people I knew who did incredible work in meatspace are not on line. But some of them are. But none of the people who do incredible work in the meatspace talk about it online. I don't know what that means or what anyone should do with that info. As for myself, I appreciate having company while I'm trapped at the computer. <3

I'm still around, but I'm in the process of figuring out how I want to use social media given that I'm constantly faced with evidence that "people who want good online" and "people who do good in real life" are separate worlds of people who have very little in common.

ADDENDUM:
To be absolutely clear, this is NOT "very online people are not worth interacting with" as lots of folks are very online for very valid reasons.
It's more that the gap is much larger than I ever thought and I'm still trying to figure out how to navigate it in a productive way.

"We should ban kids from the Internet until they turn 18"

I had a hard enough time finding people like me even with the Internet. Finding anyone locally who was anything like me was impossible.

The idea that people want to actively cut people away from their support networks, to isolate them from others, and banish the youth to a primitive 20th century lifestyle? That's fucking bullshit.

What next, do you also propose that kids only be allowed to speak to their parents, no one else?
