mayday

I was a cook, then studied archaeology (AS) at the community college and anthropology/religious studies (BA) at the university. I might go back if my health improves but for now I'm healing from #longcovid, slowly adding things like painting, sculpture, and gardening to the things I can do without crashing.

"If we tax the rich they will just leave."

So?
Let them leave.
Pretty much anywhere they go they'll need to pay taxes.
They can't take the land, houses, resources, or infrastructure they're hoarding.
They're not doing us a favour, Trickle down is a lie.
If they're only staying as long as they can avoid contributing their fair share, why would we want them here anyway?

Either they contribute to the society that benefits them or they leave and free up their stash.

Bye bye. We can do better.

Two panel cartoon. Ist panel showing two women shoppers carrying bags of stuff complaining about a large protest that blocks a street, saying 'This is all terribly inconvenient."
2nd panel, the same street flooded, with people in a boat in the background, two women shoppers wading through deep water, clutching their packages, saying 'This is all terribly inconvenient."
Caption: One way or another, change is coming.

People always ask, "Where is Bigfoot?" But they never ask, "How is Bigfoot?"

Yeti never complains..

"The most ordinary soundscapes soothe me, a memory of how the world sounded when the pedal broke off my bicycle and I had to walk everywhere, how walking from my neighborhood to the new-ish mixed use area on the way to the commissary felt uncanny, so many sounds, so many changes in terrain from day to day due to construction and unloading vehicles. I still see it in my mind as many places at once, places that all exist now like map overlays ..."

a photo of a grackle next to a sign that says "Look for Trains"
Text reads "buhhhhhhhhraingfoggly notions: ordinary sounds, commutes, the bruncheoisie, and squeezing a big giant book into a budget tighter than an ant fart" The strange word is brainfog, creatively spelled to reflect my exhaustion.

I can’t make it out — it is far but moving closer."

An oil painting by Giorgio DeChirico, two figures composed of assorted objects I can't identify. They represent Hector and Andromache from Homer's Iliad, and the scene is their last moment together before he goes to war.

Food for thought:
“Choose your leaders with wisdom and forethought.
To be led by a coward is to be controlled by all that the coward fears.
To be led by a fool is to be led by the opportunists who control the fool.
To be led by a thief is to offer up your most precious treasures to be stolen.
To be led by a liar is to ask to be told lies.
To be led by a tyrant is to sell yourself and those you love into slavery.”

TODAY AUG 25 is the last day to submit testimony to HICPAC about why infection control precautions should not be weakened. We need clean air and N95+ respirators in healthcare. We need transparency in CDC/HICPAC process.

Talking points from NNU: docs.google.com/document/d/1GV

Submit your comment in writing to the CDC at hicpac@cdc.gov

also: CDC Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee (HICPAC) needs public oversight.
