YES!!
Many, many years ago, one of my favourite musicians had a rock version of one of his bigger early songs on a cassette tape given away with a UK magazine, but the tape was lost soon after, and I haven't been able to find any reference to it's existence anywhere online.
Until today...
So here it is!

A couple of weeks back, I discovered that the fastest way to wind my author up is to get the band together and rehearse, loudly and at length, a really dodgy version of a classic song.
Okay, I've known that for ages, the new twist was the choice of song.
Barbie Girl, but to the tune of I Am Iron Man.
It sounds stupid, but it works far better than it has any right to.
His head is now about to explode, because for the last 2 hours, we've been doing I Am Iron Man to the tune of Barbie Girl...
I pity the customers at his work!😁

On This Day 21st September 2003.

Sandbox on stage at The Roadhouse, Manchester for their first ever gig, 21st November 2003
From left to right Kev - bass, Lennie Butler - vocals, acoustic guitar, Paul Allen - guitar, vocals.
**Spoiler warning**
Don't get used to Kev - he turned up for the next rehearsal, but then was never seen again.
He never actually quit, but they managed to find someone to play their next gig at 2 days notice.

3 people on a stage, performing as part of a band.
On the left is a man with floppy dark hair, wearing a brown t-shirt with black piping on the collar and cuffs, and a blue pair of jeans, playing a red bass guitar attached to a tan strap slung over his shoulder.
In the middle is a woman with red hair cut in a bob, wearing a black vest top and dark blue trousers, singing into a microphone on a stand, holding on to the mic with her left hand, while her right hand is down by her waist.
On the right is a man with wavy brown hair, wearing a blue t-shirt with long white sleeves, and playing a red electric guitar attached to a black strap over his left shoulder, and singing into a microphone on a stand.
A black amplifier is standing on a red crate behind the person on the right.
Black walls and ceiling fill the rest of the frame, with black and yellow hazard tape marking a low ceiling.

A man with short dark hair, wearing a green t-shirt and light-coloured trousers, playing an electric guitar on a stage.
A long exposure and red stage lights conspire to flood the image with red and yellow light, showing off the movement of his arms and guitar.
A drumkit can be seen behind him on the right, with amplifiers in the background on the left., with dark walls and ceiling with a red cast filling the rest of the frame.

A massively over-exposed and pretty-much blown-out photo of a man with long, light-coloured hair, wearing a black t-shirt with a white logo, and playing a red electric guitar.
Bright stage lights, some mounted on rails at the top of the walls in the background, have flooded the frame with an explosion of orange light, washing out a lot of the detail, yet leaving enough to form a dynamic image.

@gcvsa
Ahhh - the other band on the bill that night was Miocene, and in the corner of one photo of their guitarist is this...

A photo of several gold-coloured guitar amplifiers in a grey travel case, all with a "Marshall" logo on the front.

@gcvsa
I've just been through all the photos of these guys that I have, and this is the only other one that shows this gear.
It's niot very good or very clear, but then, I was trying to get photos of the band, not their equipment!

Close-up of someone's right hand, holding a green guitar pick, and playing a black electruic guitar.
A pair of gold guitar amplifiers in a grey transport case can be seen in the background.

@madcam I have questions about all those gold-anodized rack mount units. Marshall? Digitech?

@gcvsa I'm afraid I haven't a clue -- I saw these guys play a handful of times in 2001-2002, but was never actually involved with them or anything they did, and although I loved the first album, I kow pretty much nothing about them
I had a quick chat with this guy at a gig at Academy 3 in Manchester, but that was about it.

A rack of amplifiers in a case is on the floor behind him on the left, with the bands DJ visible in the background.
Black walls fill the rest of the frame.

Sam Stevens, lead singer and bassist with Northwich-based punks The Short-Cuts, at The Star And Garter, Manchester, 25th May 2002.
Drummer Chris "Bundie" Mundie is getting rather excited behind him.

A man with short-ish blonde hair and a short beard, wearing a green t-shirt with a circular white logo across the front, and a blue pair of jeans, singing into a microphone on a stand in front of him and playing a black bass guitar, attached to a bright red strap slung over his left shoulder.
A black, wedge-like monitor speaker is on the stage in front of him.
In the background, a yellow drape with a swirly black design hangs down the wall, while on the left, a man with short dark hair is sitting topless on a stool behind a drum kit, his arms raised in the air, holding aloft a pair of drumsticks.
Black walls fill the rest of the background.

Well, that was interesting.
While writing the blurbs for today's photo, I had to check the spelling of the name of an obscure drummer from an obscure band from an obscure town in the North of England - I have one of their CDs, and he is named on the liner for that, but I'm on the bus to work, and don't have it with me.
So I opened my search engine of choice, and typed his name in.
And 2 things became obvious.
Most references to his existence seem to come from my photos
He appears to be well-known and well regarded in both Psychobilly and OI! circles!
Not bad.
Not bad at all.
The fact that I've heard of both of the bands he is most associated with (and one of them I swear I've seen, albeit before he joined), even though I'm not particularly a fan of either genre quite possibly says a lot.
And no writing for those blurbs ended up being written...

Just written a short blog post, which will be appearing here later because the blog isnt ready yet, about a small rabbit I went down earlier after trying to find details about someone who was in a band i did the occasional photo shoot form previously than 20 years ago.
And I'm thinking that this could be a series of posts, a "Where Are They Now" series, so to speak.
Just off the top of my head, I can think of people i worked with/for who are teachers, politicians, tech entrepreneurs, song writers for some of the biggest names innovation, paralympic athletes, (autocorrect wanted to change that to "paralytic"!!), and more.
Some are even still involved in the music biz!
I'll add that to the list of things i need to write...

He is wearing a white t-shirt, with a large yellow square filling the chest, with the red text "Every man a rebel" at the top, and the head of a man with long, black dreadlocks at the bottom.
He is also wearing a blue pair of jeans.
Part of a microphone stand and the head of a guitar is visible on the left of the frame, while a man can be seen leaning in to the side of the stage in the background on the right.
Black walls fill the rest of the frame.

On This Day 15th November 2025.

Alison MacInnes, singer with London-based band Fifth Amendment, deciding to abandon her musical career and become a cave explorer, heading off to explore the insides of the suspended ceiling while the rest of the band kept playing, at The Roadhouse, Manchester, 15th November 2000.

A woman with short red hair, wearing a black top that rises up over her midriff and white trousers, climbing into the gap caused by a large missing tile in the white ceiling, her legs supported by the hands of people in the crowd below her.
A big grin is plastered over her face, and she seems to be enjoying herself.

Oh man...
Just found an absolute treasure trove of photos, some I thought long lost, and others full sized originals of photos I now have little more than thumbs - and in some cases, they have the bands name and the date!
I'm off the week after next, I think I'm going to be spending time going through my old Google Photos!
