I am now developing a theory that govts will not actually start treating it seriously until the media does first, and there’s no sign of that yet.
I really wish broadcast media would just stop covering extreme climate change heat by showing people enjoying a cooling dip and ice creams. Even the ABC. Just stop it.

Just saw Neil Degrasse Tyson on youtube saying if *all* the ice melts, the ocean level will be at the Statue of Liberty’s left hand.
So I tried to imagine it by drawing a red line on a photo, but then I realized it had already been imagined.
Mark this day. The ABC TV evening weather report now includes ocean temperatures. Never seen that before.

1000 richest people are approched. "The end of the world is here. Time to go to your doomsday bunker", they are told. The billionaires nodded. They knew this was coming. They were prepared.
So they gathered their loved ones and locked themselves in luxury bunkers. No contact to outside world.
10 years later they emerge. The world has healed. The air is breathable, people are happy. "What was the catastrophy?" they ask the first person they meet.
She screams: "THEY GOT OUT!!!"
So mastodon doesn't do quoted posts. I think I understand the goal of avoiding that feature. People have decided that "dunking" is the overriding usage of quoting and that we should avoid the inherent toxicity.
But quoted posts are also the foundation of true discourse in a medium like this. It is the primary way to start *new* conversation that is an offshoot of an existing conversation rather than a direct response.
I'm finding it hard to do that on here. And the result is I just don't post.
Watching dog training videos on youtube where the professionals take a totally untrained and out of control young dog which doesn’t even come when it’s called and two weeks later it’s calmly obeying every command and walking at heel off-lead is eerily like The Stepford Wives.
The remarkable thing to me about this archaeological dig of a 600AD European gravesite is the full set of healthy dentures. Not a cavity or rotten tooth in sight.
