Whenever anyones uses โ€œneckโ€ and โ€œbackโ€ in the same sentence, I have intrusive thoughts

I've tried a couple of apps for locating people on Mastodon. movetodon.org/ is the most painless so far.

Debirdify has some nice charts though.

A chart showing where the people we follow are. The top five instances are ecoevo.social, mastodon.social, genomic.social. fediscience.org and mstdn.science

There are a lot of (predominantly white) researchers that are interested in broadening participation in #STEM & tbh I'm concerned about the way folks are approaching their outreach & community work. I worry that white folks are showing up in Black & Brown spaces in ways that might be self-serving, reductionist, extractivist, or even harmful. Not sure what the solution is here, but even the literature on this is disheartening.

Hey #botany & #biology #researchers! Iโ€™m looking into #OCR software right now because Iโ€™m interested in extracting flower trait information from #floras & botanical #monographs.
Does anyone have an idea if such a tool exists? Pls let me know!!

Universities often announce increases in faculty diversity; how is that adding up? ๐Ÿงต

In a new analysis of US federal data in Nature Human Behavioir with @NeilLewisJr & @HopesPsychology@twitter.com, we show that the U.S. is not succeeding in diversifying faculty.

We also (1) analyze whether the pipeline analogy is helping or hurting and (2) compute what it would take to achieve faculty parity in our lifetime.

So, I went to an #economics #econtwitter mixer yesterday and people kept referencing my twitter account. It occurred to me in that moment that real people in real life can see my tweets. Like all of you following me on #mastodon are real.

I am perpetually shocked that people read my tweets and engage with it online AND offline.

"Aren't you that girl from #Twitter?" be having me like:

Participatory lego dataviz! I asked people in my department to put a lego on the scatterplot to share how much sleep they got and how caffeinated they were. #dataviz

A scatterplot made out of legos. The y-axis is how much sleep did they get, the x-axis is how caffeinated are they. There are legos all over the scatterplot.
