🛰️ The spacecraft’s primary roll thrusters, offline since 2004, were believed permanently dead
🧯 With backup thrusters at risk of failure, JPL engineers gambled on a high-stakes heater reset
🔥 If wrong, it could’ve caused a small onboard explosion
📡 If right, it would restore control — 15.6 billion miles from Earth
They were right. The thrusters fired. Voyager 1 can still hold its course.
This wasn’t a reboot. It was old-school problem-solving, deep systems knowledge, and the audacity to trust an idea that might just work.
The most distant human object is still flying — because a team believed it could.

The National Library of Finland (my employer, part of the University of Helsinki) started a Mastodon instance at some.kansalliskirjasto.fi . There are two active accounts for services provided by the library: @Finto and @julkaisuarkistot .
This is an experiment; other services may follow. There is no "main" account for the library itself.

Just walked past the Uber Eats dark kitchen “democracy sausage pickup zone” and if we can regulate what’s allowed to be called “Anzac” we can regulate what’s allowed to be called a “democracy sausage”. I’m not even shitposting.
This is classic USAmerican cultural misunderstanding from Uber Eats.
The entire point of the :democracysausage: democracy sausage is you buy it from the school fundraising committee at the polling booth.
The #DemocracySausage is a celebration of the democratic process, yes, but also more. It’s the equivalent of the American “I voted” sticker. AND just as importantly, buying the sausage at the polling booth supports the social fabric that makes up our democracy by financially supporting the school, church, scout troop etc.
Reducing this to a commercial transaction between an individual and an American tax evasion scheme without ever leaving the house is literally the opposite of what democracy sausages represent.

Updating my NAA redaction finder model using the latest version of YOLO. Seems to be working pretty well.
@astrogenealogist Glad to be of help. This was done based on the easiest version to use Omeka.net. I’m also working on a private site that uses Omeka S, which is more powerful but has a steeper learning curve.
Last year we launched the Stockton Historical Society Inc Digital Archives. We did an online event to showcase the new site. We didn’t record due to privacy, so I’ve re-recorded the presentation. So if you’re interested in setting up an online archive for a small #GLAM institution, give it a watch!
