Are you planning for Voyager 1's Light Day celebration???

Sometime in mid-Nov 2026, the Voyager 1 spacecraft will reach 24h of light time travel to/from Earth!

(if my fiddling with NASA's "Your Solar System" tool is correct, a light day is roughly 25.9 billion km)

I know it's an arbitrary thing, but that we've managed to send a spacecraft a full light day away from Earth and it's still functioning!

Anyone? C'mon! This is way cool :)

Hopefully Voyager 1 can survive until later. In this 2025, Voyager 1 has been at a distance of 25.0 billion kilometers from Earth and will continue to fly away until later even when contact with Earth is lost in about 2036. It is the most distant human-made object from Earth.

#NASA Turns Off Two Voyager Science Instruments To Extend Mission

🔋 Apagados dos instrumentos en las sondas
La NASA ordenó el pasado 25 de febrero apagar el instrumento CRS (Cosmic Ray Subsystem) de la sonda Voyager 1. Y para el próximo 24 de marzo está previsto que la sonda Voyager 2 apague el instrumento LECP (Low-Energy Charged Particles). El objetivo de estas desconexiones es ahorrar unos vatios energía y permitir que ambas naves puedan seguir funcionando con un instrumento al menos hasta el año 2030/2031. De momento ambas naves mantienen tres instrumentos operativos.
