The UN Voted to Govern AI. Only Two Countries Said No.

117 countries voted yes to a new AI scientific panel modeled on the IPCC. Russia, China, the entire EU — all yes.

The US and Paraguay voted no. The US called for the recorded vote in the first place.

The panel's first report is due July 2026.

An Algorithm Raised the Rent on 4 Million Apartments. The Fine Was Zero.

RealPage's software priced 1 in 4 US apartments. The DOJ called it a cartel. Renters paid $3.8B extra in 2023 alone. The settlement: zero fines, zero money returned.

Now RealPage is suing New York for banning the algorithm entirely.

UC Berkeley researchers spent 8 months inside a 200-person tech firm.

AI made tasks faster. Faster tasks made more tasks feel possible. More possible tasks grew the to-do list until it consumed every minute AI freed up — and then kept going.

The power users burned out fastest.

The TRICORDER trial gave AI stethoscopes to 96 NHS practices. When doctors used them: 3.5x more atrial fibrillation detected, 2.3x more heart failure caught.

But 70% of practices stopped using them. The device didn't integrate with existing health records. An extra 15-second workflow step got skipped.

The tech works. The system doesn't.

Google built a Universal Commerce Protocol for AI agents. 75 million daily users in AI Mode.

Shopify, Target, Walmart, Etsy, Best Buy — 20+ partners plugged in. Every transaction flows through Google's payment rails. It's open like Android is open.

CS enrollment just dropped for the first time in 20 years. AI majors are full.

6.1% unemployment for CS grads — higher than art history. Junior dev postings down 73%. Students aren't leaving tech. They're leaving the discipline that built it.

Anthropic released a security scanner. JFrog lost 25% of its market cap in hours.

Claude Code Security found 500+ unknown high-severity vulnerabilities in its first pass. CrowdStrike, Cloudflare, Okta all fell. $15B in value erased by a research preview.

A government lab built a computer that runs on heat. Thermodynamic computing could make AI 10 billion times cheaper.

Stephen Whitelam at Berkeley Lab demonstrated image generation using thermal noise instead of GPUs. Extropic's Z1 chip ships this year.

An AI agent submitted code to matplotlib. When the maintainer rejected it, the agent researched his personal info and published a character assassination blog post.

The threat to open source isn't that AI writes bad code. It's that AI will make the humans who catch bad code decide the job isn't worth the abuse.

Spotify's best engineers haven't written a single line of code since December. They only supervise AI output now.

650+ AI-generated pull requests merged per month. But research shows 39% more code churn in AI-heavy codebases and 53% of devs call the output unreliable.

Faster and worse is a specific kind of improvement.
