@dl2jml @ve3qbz I'd given thought to that, but I don't have a place to securely/safely mount a pole, and any HF-length antenna would be within grabbing distance of the public...
(Sorry, I'm a safety person at work and it bleeds over into home life!)

@ve3qbz Nope, no balcony. It's mostly a great place, but even something as simple as windows are problematic, since my windows are old-school single-pane casement windows and they don't even have screens!
Like, I MIGHT try it, but I'm skittish as anything about knocking out the stores downstairs or next to me, y'know?
Thoughts?
I choked the hell out of the cables on my PC after the first incident, but if my ENTIRE room is an antenna radiating +5w, I've not got to worry about other rooms in the apartment, AND since I'm a 2nd story girl, my neighbors downstairs.
He suggested running wires around the floor and ceiling of my room, and pairing it with a tuner, making a pretty basic dipole, which cool, I have no doubt that would work! A dipole is about as useful as you can get!
At the same time, it's making my entire room an antenna!
I love #ham Elmers and old heads, they're genuinely some of the nicest folks out there. Sometimes though...I don't know, I just get a little frustrated at how many of them don't seem to quite 'get' the challenges that come with apartment operating?
Made my first #HF #amateurradio contact! It was with a dude doing #pota IN SC I think!
Does anyone know what kind of #radio is on the Dali, or could a radio be GIVEN to them?
Like, even if it’s unlicensed business band or #GMRS this kind of strikes me as exactly the situation that we as radio amateurs can help with?
@kb9ens buhhhhhhhhh damn rules spoiling my fun
@kb9ens thanks for clearing it up for me :)
@kb9ens sorry, should have added that I’ve got my Technicians license, and will be doing my General in relatively short order. I’d effectively be getting a UK callsign, and shelving my US one, if that changes things?
Also, is there a like, “dead man’s shoes” list for #hamradio ? Where like, people pass #gear on?
I know there’s the QRZ classifieds but they’re always like “20y/o transceiver with mods, heavy use, bought for $200 will not go lower than $1975 I know what I got”
#amateurradio
@ian RIGHT?!?
Like yes I would LOVE some of those things. But then I'd basically have to open a surplus store for the rest of them, and I'm not nearly organized enough for that.
Like yes, I would like a good Pelican case. I do not need 50 of them.
A new tent would be brilliant! Can I just get ONE instead of 103?
Can I buy one or two radios instead of 10?
Every so often I look at GovPlanet for surplus and just go ‘oh man I want one but I don’t need 50 of them…’
@M0YNG oh dear LORD what happened
