Hello all #touhou players on Mastodon! The Open Source Club at OSU wanted to shine a spotlight on a helpful guide made by one of our members that goes over how to play many of the #touhou_project games on desktop #Linux. #LinuxGaming gets better every year, and we're proud that one of our own members has put in the work to continue dropping the remaining barriers!

You can read the guide on his GitHub pages link here: daichungus.github.io/touhoulin

@dff The video itself is licensed as CC-BY, and we used @libreoffice Impress to make the slides, then @kdenlive to edit the final cut! 😄

@dff Why yes, we have! Our student organization partnered with our university ACM-W chapter to give a presentation introducing FOSS to the layperson a few months back: spectra.video/w/jdonEwcXtycZLz

#EndOf10 "The Open Source alternative to forced obsolescence"

opensource.org/blog/end-of-10-

> Open Source isn’t just about code. It’s about community, sustainability, and autonomy. The “End of 10” campaign is a chance to show the world how powerful those values can be.

> We invite everyone—users, developers, educators, and advocates—to be part of this movement. Because the end of Windows 10 isn’t the end of the road. It’s a new beginning.

Congratulations to our member Natalie for winning our LibreOffice Impress Template-a-Thon! Thank you to @dff for helping organize the Document Freedom Day events across the globe, and thank you @libreoffice for providing OSC with prize material! The swag was more than worth the international-shipping wait. 🤩

Natalie has chosen only to display the back of the sweater on social media, but we can assure you that the front is just as fire. 😎

It's our last meeting of the year! We've talked a lot this year about FOSS at the lower levels, from projects in FOSS we personally use, to organizations that help fund their development, to our own experiences within the community... Going into the summer, we wanted to take a step back and talk about FOSS at a higher level, from the strengths it can provide the average user, reasons it's yet to see lots of mainstream adoption, and what WE can do as individuals to help change that!

Text at the top reads, "Open Source Club invites you to," followed by "Moving FOSS Forward" with spotlights shining on the latter phrase. Text at the bottom reads, "Where is free software today? What are its strengths? What's holding it back? And what can we do to help it? Plus, the 2025-2026 E-Board and what we look forward to doing in the coming year! Back in February, we had the opportunity to present an Introduction to Open Source; a collaborative venture between OSC and the ACM-W chapter at OSU (full recording on our linked PeerTube!) At the end of the presentation, we played a fun Fuiz (thanks for the FOSS Kahoot alternative, @adhami !) where the prize was the winner's choice of merch, courtesy of @freewear. Now that the merch arrived, we wanted to publicly congratulate our winner, Bennett, sporting his #archlinux swag! Way to go!! 🥳🎉🎉🎉

Open Source Club had another great meeting today! One of our members (likely soon-to-be Executive Officer... 👀) went over some great ideas for how OSC can achieve MORE student engagement next year, as well as some great fundraising ideas! Then, we had a fruitful conversation about desktop/consumer Linux, and ways we can improve messaging and reduce jargon to introduce more people to the world of free and sovereign software.

Meeting slides can be found in the link in our bio. 😎

Windows and macOS marketing has made it seem like they're your only options when it comes to computer operating systems, but did you know there's more to choose from? If you're interested in getting Big Tech away from the front line of your digital tech use, come learn about what Linux on the consumer desktop looks like!

Happy #DocumentFreedomDay everyone! 🤩 Today, the Open Source Club at OSU had members present templates made in the open OPT standard, bringing more creative resources to the open format community at large! Big props to @dff and @libreoffice for all the work they do in bringing accessibility and sovereignty to people’s academic and professional digital lives. 😎 We can’t wait to do it again next year!

It's almost #documentfreedomday2025 everyone! To celebrate open standards in office software and the lowering of barriers in the professional field, OSC is hosting a Template-a-Thon where club members (and anyone who's interested) are encouraged to contribute to the creative LibreOffice ecosystem by creating CC-licensed presentation templates!

Yesterday’s meeting, we went over the tools LibreOffice Impress has to offer, and spent some time collaboratively working on our presentation templates! We'll present submissions on Wednesday; we're excited to see what people make!

To start off, while we would have loved to simply boost our "Intro to Open Source" presentation we did on campus, it seems the video isn't quite loading on our Mastodon feed (it is rather long...), so, here's a direct link! For the vets in the field, let us know what you think, and how we can improve messaging of the benefits of FOSS to those who are unfamiliar!

Hello, Mastodon! 👋

We're the Open Source Club at the Ohio State University in Columbus, OH. As good as word-of-mouth can be for gaining awareness, we decided it was about time we start spreading our reach further into the net - and, being a club dedicated to free software, we thought it appropriate to get on the Fediverse, too! 🐘

It's early beginnings, so we may not post much yet, but we hope to become a wonderful addition to the Mastodon community! 😎🎉
