Reminder: Webinar - Reimagining leadership - Dr. N. Sharon Hill - Mar 28, 2025 12:00 PM EDT

Register via Zoom umd.zoom.us/webinar/register/W

The lack of face-to-face interaction in virtual environments might place a greater emphasis on social, emotional, cultural, and relational leadership intelligences. This might accelerate the tectonic shifts in leadership prototypes: less masculine and monoculture in leadership mindsets and behaviors.

Recent technological advances are shifting the role of AI from tool to teammate, sparking a surge of interest in human-AI teams. In fact, tech giants now market β€œAI teammates,” and military agencies sponsor research on human-AI teams. This new form of teamwork raises the question: how can we apply our knowledge of human teams to enhance teamwork with AI?

Achievement unlocked: finished the semester by successfully rickrolling 1000+ students. My life is now complete

Excerpt from a student email which reads: "I just wanted to send this email to let you know that while I'm stressed out of my mind trying to study for this exam and make sure I understand everything and make sure I don't completely lose my sanity. I was looking at the exam preparation page on canvas and saw the "P.S I leave you with this final thought" and clicked on the link and seeing Never Gonna Give You Up open genuinely sent me into a laughing fit for like 10 minutes."

I'm very tired* of the assumption that the Web _needs_ advertising in some form to continue to exist as a widely accessible service. I will not accept this false dichotomy of ads _or) paywalls.

1) Everywhere we fucking look we have ads _and_ paywalls. See: media streaming services, the cinema, print newspapers and magazines...

2) Please, I beg you, go involve yourself in some kind of co-operative, collective, mutual aid, community organisation, literally anything that isn't just transaction/exploitation based, and consider that maybe there are other ways to exist.

* tired in the sense of exhausted and weary, and also in the sense of mind-numbingly bored by.

Excited to share that our paper "Save a Tree or 6 kg of CO2? Understanding Effective Carbon Footprint Interventions for Eco-Friendly Vehicular Choices" won an honorable mention πŸ† at #CHI2023 (Part of my amazing internship at Toyota Research Institute with @ayman , Alex, Nayeli, and Scott!) We explored effective ways to communicate carbon footprint information. Does CO2 emissions in grams/lbs make more sense? Or "🌳 saved" or "β›½ burnt" is more effective at nudging users to make green choices?

Screenshot of our CHI paper "Save a Tree or 6 kg of CO2? Understanding Effective Carbon Footprint Interventions for Eco-Friendly Vehicular Choices" showing the author list, abstract, and part of the introductionA fictional ridesharing app that shows a map of a 20 mile route in Portland on the left and two ride sharing options on the right. One ride green for $66.81 burning 3.92 lbs of coal. The other standard ride for $47.21 burning 7.04 lbs of coal.
