@scroeser good night and good luck :)
Dang it got late again. Why does this keep happening?
We’re lucky to share our mountains with the world’s only alpine parrot — the clever and cheeky kea. Endemic to New Zealand, they’re full of personality… and mischief! If you’ve ever met one, you’ll know just how naughty they can be! They are extremely intelligent but will steal anything they are able to grab, as well as pulling trim off vehicles.

I yearn to someday live in a world where the people in charge of things are smarter than me
Dear Fedi friends,
I'm really proud to share with you a video I made: "Introducing the Fediverse: a New Era of Social Media" https://news.elenarossini.com/fediverse-video/
In this 4-minute video I explain what the #fediverse is to people not familiar with it, mentioning some of its great features and benefits (interoperability, no ads, no surveillance...) and I set it in contrast to the world of Big Tech social platforms. I argue that, with the rise of Big Tech oligarchs and the current political climate, there has never been a better time to join the fediverse.
I hope you will enjoy this video and that you will find it useful (maybe as a tool to introduce your friends, family, colleagues, school administrators, local government officials to it).
The fediverse has truly changed my life, making me a better, more empowered digital citizen. I am endlessly grateful for it, so this is my contribution to the cause ❤️
I am also incredibly thankful for the work of @samaaberg and @patel.riyen who helped me bring my vision to life with their amazing cinematography skills and their assistance throughout the process, providing brilliant feedback to the script / edits from the POV of fedi newbies.
And I was also moved by the generous help of people of the Fediverse who volunteered to translate the script into many foreign languages: @jan @fritjof @erikkemp @sknob @severin @clabru @tarcisiosurdi @hongminhee @danielcasanueva @ainali @nacly
Lastly, I'm thankful for the opportunity I had to premiere the video last week at #FediForum - thank you @j12t and @anca
The video is up on my self-hosted PeerTube instance (thank you @yunohost) and for now it is unlisted as I have no idea how my VPS will hold up. I also included an alternate location in the blog post.
I hope you'll enjoy it! It's been a real labor of love (a month of full time work on it)... I see it as my love letter to the fediverse 💌
Edit/update: THANK YOU for all the people who volunteered to have their avatar show up in the last shot. There were 750+ submissions and only 135 spots - sorry I couldn't include everyone 🥲

Anyone doing anything in October?
Nice cool day to have nice warm vegetable soup
Thanks Apple for introducing the liquid ass 🤭
A city passes the Bikedel Test if there are two safe and reliable ways to get where you’re going other than driving a car.
@jcsims I think that is a good description of this show 😅
No one really cares but I just wanna reiterate that episode 3 'Two Boats and a Helicopter' of HBO's The Leftovers is one of the most masterfully brilliant hours of television ever produced. It's a pity the show was always far too grim and bleak (much like life) to truly find a mainstream audience. I'll just leave you with this tidbit from the trivia section of the fandom wiki:
The title of the episode refers to an old joke about a man standing on the roof of his house during a flood. He refuses three rescue attempts, saying he is confident God will save him. After he drowns and goes to Heaven, he chastises God for letting him down. God says, “I sent you two boats and a helicopter!”

@elStiko Sounds like a silly way to get something done. I would do it differently if I was in charge :)
@tj haha true then set another holiday straight after :)
OK reckon it's about time Australia get out of the British Empire. Someone set that up pls
Here's a dream job for any reporter wanting to get their feet on the ground. Alice Springs is a beautiful and interesting part of Australia with great story potential. #newsjobs
Time to get rid of the monarchs birthday holiday and associated honours list. When someone like Scott Morrison makes the list it's just a slap in the face of people who deserve recognition.

I was thinking about how Brisbane seems destined to repeat Boston's Big Dig a few days ago.
Seems I'm not the only one: https://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/national/queensland/the-story-bridge-should-serve-as-a-warning-and-an-opportunity-20250603-p5m4ir.html
TransApex (the existing tunnels) were largely implemented to compliment the above ground network rather than replacing them.
Don't get me wrong, the idea of putting the expressway and ICB underground sounds fantastic to me. But the space still needed for all of the tunnel portals would still be significant, and the costs even more so. That kind of money would be better spent on Brisbane Subway IMO.

I envy her bravery, and everyone who has the courage to face such a murderous foe.
