@Moisturizor That was highly interesting.
Since I hear so many content creators mispronounce it, MATE (desktop environment) is pronounced "Mah-Tay" and it is named after yerba matΓ©, the South American plant. Learn more at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MATE_(desktop_environment)#name #Linux #MATE
@kallofox34.bsky.social Your setup looks great!

@vkc Great video! I looked at your page and it looks awesome! I recently got inspired to make a personal site (still in progress, not shared it yet) and all of that HTML knowledge I had from the late 90's starting rushing back. My goal is to write it all myself, maybe annoying my wife to do some graphic design. I did learn to do a little java script and css in the past few days, but I am keeping it all super simple.
I think mastodon.social is having more server issues today. I keep getting 503 errors popping up and its running very slow.
@Linux I understand your perspective. My issue is IBM's still a large, old-school corporation. Hard to trust them after they ditched CentOS (free RHEL rebuild) for CentOS Stream (upstream dev) right after the acquisition. I don't believe we should rely on big tech. I prefer community-built tools & supporting them when I can.
@Linux I tried Fedora upon your recommendation (I greatly appreciate it) and enjoyed my time with it. I ended up going back to Debian because I missed the familiarity. My main reservation with Fedora was their close relationship with Red Hat, and ultimately their overlord, IBM.
@dankrolla Usually when a company calls software a service (SaaS), they start asking for monthly payments, i.e. Microsoft 365 or Adobe Creative Cloud. I'm sure that is their wet dream.
@tasinone Yeah, maybe, but I run into the same issues on any distro I've tried. The problem isn't Linux or a distro, it is the NVIDIA proprietary drivers are the worst. I can now fix the issues, I'm especially good at it in Debian. I'm just whining because Intel and AMD drivers aren't like this.

You know, I haven't been on Linux or Debian for a long time. With all of the problems I have had with NVIDIA drivers and getting the latest games to work on Debian and other distros and fighting the drivers to cooperate, I feel like I'm an expert at this point. I have really grown to dislike NVIDIA. #Linux #Debian
@kero And I'm sure you're probably already familiar with it, but be sure to check http://localhost:631 to access CUPS for printer configuration and troubleshooting.
@kero One final idea, you could try the Linux label printer driver for Xprinter at https://www.xprintertech.com/drivers-2.html I'm not sure if it comes in a .deb or .rpm package, so that would probably involve converting it to an Arch package or extracting the PPD file.
@kero You could (though less likely to work) also try some common open-source printer driver collections such as gutenprint or foo2zjs to see if they might work, as well.
@kero I imagine that is frustrating. You're probably not going to find drivers for it for Linux. I was hoping to find a user-made package in the AUR, but that didn't turn up for anything, either https://aur.archlinux.org Linux relies on CUPS and you're probably going to have to try a driver for something similar, such as "Zebra 2844" or "Generic Thermal Label Printer" in Majaro's desktop "Print Settings."
